"This is the horrible accident that everybody always hoped would never occur"
              Bull-SHIT!

Nobody wishes for fatalities in such a crash, that we may all agree upon
but this sure looks a lot more entertaining then a big snake of cars driving around a track 'till race over
I'm willing to bet most people ARE watching it for 'the big one!", because that's the only thing that keeps it more interesting than slot car racing

and just logically seen, these races are accidents waiting to happen
Close quarter racing, narrow performance differences between cars, lots of yellow flags, lots of cars bunched together, high speeds
All you need are a few beers, a box of popcorn and wait for the parts fly, because it's a recipe for disaster
"There's nothing taking away from the pure masculinity I possess"

              -"You like Anime"

              "....crap!"

                  This ain't Nascar, shut up.

Open-wheel racing are the most demanding racing categories in the world and I'm ready to bet you'd throw your brains out from trying to last one lap in one of these cars. While this was an oval track, these cars are still the most grueling to race; unlike Nascars they are really stiff and with that power-to-weight ratio generates a g-force that throws you around like you're absolutely nothing. As a racing enthusiast I respect anybody that makes it in those categories; Indy, F3, F1, whatever, they are the best drivers the world has ever seen.

I personally don't watch Indy, but RIP Dan.

                    Good post KV.
Nightbat, nothing personal, just put it in another place or time.
I have to go watch Despain.

So my comment on the video as posted is a jackass opinion?

So, apologies if I came across as being somewhat desensitized by media

True, the media is a lost cause!
                        I'm with you on that.
                        Apology accepted.
Despain was not on, so I have to eat crow on that...

The words to hear are from his fellow drivers in the series.
I was wondering if there would be a call to eliminate Indy cars from NASCAR tracks.
Many have already done that, Charlotte for example.

Ok, heres my opinion, take it for what its worth, this wouldnt have even gotten media attention if someone wouldnt have gotten seriously hurt then died. The only difference between this crash and any other was the number of cars involved and the fatality. The cars wreck, the cars fly, the cars burst into flames all the time from the fore mentioned. The only thing that sets this apart from the rest is death. Its gonna turn into a shit storm regarding rules and regulations and whos fault etc. only because someone died and the media had a hay day with it. You cant fly around a track at 200+ and expect to finish with your life every time.. The drivers know this, anyone with half a brain knows this. Im sorry, death is an inherent danger in this sport, I feel bad for the family and friends of the deceased, but its no surprise to me whatsoever. Cover the death in the media with a few nice words about the deceased, then move on. Dont rally a lynch mob with pitch forks and torches over speculation as to why it happened, it had to happen some time, it will happen again until the sport is banned. No, Im not saying it should be banned, Im just saying if theyre gonna get all huffy puffy because someone died, then the only option to keep it from happening again is to stop the races. Track size wont make a difference, number of cars on the track wont stop it, safety features on cars wont stop it. Its the idea of moving about at high velocities thats the cause of the disaster. Its a sport thats all about pushing the limits, at some point, youre gonna cross a line and something ill will happen.
