Hm, good point. Since there's no money in record sales, companies can't get their investment back (plus more) that way.

I admit whole-heartedly my first Anthrax tape (Among the Living) was copied from a friend, but I am sure I gave them the money for it with the ticket price and tour shirts and shit (the only other band I've seen more times than Anthrax is Iron Maiden). Piracy helps artists, especially since they do get more from touring than album sales. However a good album is still worth actually buying.
Another good point. I have brought up the massive tape-copying that I remember from my youth when discussing these things with friends, but they deny any memory of it Sure, it was not on the same scale as downloading, but it's not like copying copyrighted material is something new... think also about all the movies people copied and shared on VHS.

Such is the way of the world. My latest album is a masterpiece of avant garde Heavy Rock guitar torture, and when I wrote "Donkey Balls Blues" I was SURE it was going to set the music world alight. Alas, thanks to internet pirates from Somalia, my ship full of cash and strippers has been hijacked so I'm fucked.

Scott Ian is a whiney little cunt who thinks he is an A-list Rock Star, but who is really only worthy of a footnote in HM history, albeit a large footnote, at one time they could have been right up there with You-know-who. I too was a huge fan back when they showed immense promise, before they turned into a cartoon band of wannabe rappers.

I also remember trading tapes with other people who went on to buy his later output, went to his gigs, back when vinyl LPs were relatively expensive for us kids. We certainly didn't buy a handful of new stuff every week and hope we liked it, we had to have a good idea of what we were getting. That was piracy, and without it, Scott Ian would be sucking cocks for his rent.

He should be thankful he's still doing the rounds on the Nostalgia Circuit, because in reality, that is all he is doing. No youngster is going to go and see some old fart who thinks he is down with the kids, no more than I would have gone to see old 70s rock bands like Deep Purple instead of Anthrax back when Madhouse had the most erection-inducing riff I had ever heard. He's lucky to be still gigging and that old fuckers like me will go to see him and take young kids with us to show them what REAL music is. Even then, I probably wouldn't go to see Anthrax because of the obnoxious light-bulb headed arsehole Scott Ian apparently is.

If he makes an LP which is the soundtrack to Billy Milano kicking his arse down the stairs and then swinging him around by that stupid fucking beard, followed by a right royal boot-to-arse fucking, I promise I'll buy every edition - LP, digital re-master, coloured vinyl, picture disc, and even the one where he re-records someone's instrument to dodge royalty payments (with a huge nod to Sharon).

I'd also pay good money to see his wife double teamed by John Bush and Danny Lilkler.
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

        I nearly broke her back

I agree Joey sounds great on the new album - I liked Joey and John about the same so I have no problem with either being in the band.
I just havent liked the new album enough to warrant buying it. Like you, I think I just got sick of the soap opera that is Anthrax. I rushed out and bought WCFYA the day it came out and I remember fucking LOVING it and being so happy at how cool it was.
8 years or whatever it is later and after all the shit that's happened thanks to Scott and Charlie, I just find it hard to be enthusiastic for the band I always liked the best of the big 4.

they were gone 32 years ago as well

the 80's 'Metal Scene' would perhaps have exploded anyway without Van Halen, but really, once Eddie and consorts were noticed, suddenly all labels were looking for VH-alike acts to cash in

Jezus, the whole spandex/guyliner/High pitched screams/blazing guitarsolos were so done to death that starting the 90's we recieved fucking Grunge music as backlash
and THAT the labels milked dry with emo/depressed act after emo/depressed bunch of vagrants just as much as any boyband hype

Record labels aren't looking for talent and/or originality, just fucking MONEY

Bloody hell, Lady Gaga isn't a new Mozart, she's just another image playing the press for publicity, she surely doesn't sell so many albums because she fills her work with Quality

I think the issue is Scott has Big4itus because they are getting credit now as being one of the big four thrash bands he thinks some how anthrax is a bigger band then they actually were.

Frankly I see Anthrax as a novelty act at best, and very serious don't believe they'd have sold HALF the albums they've sold had it not been for the renewed interest drawn from the Big4 shows. I can't remember a single or an album by them exactly setting the world on fire. That shittastic rap song they did with public enema was probably as close as they came.

I do like Anthrax but seriously it's 2011 and they were never that good to begin with.
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

Why doesn't Scott Ian go back to those shitty Vh1 countdown shows.

"Pat Benetar was a badass rock chick and I'll fight you if you disagree, she was almost metal"

                      "Korn changed music, their awesome"

"Creed was awesome music if you pay attention to the lyrics"

"Green Day is the hardest rocking punk band since the ramones"

Just a few of the moronic quotes I remember from him, being on those shitty Vh1 music countdown shows.

I seriously can't stand this idiot. Both how he looks and his music. I never have understood why Anthrax is even considered as the Big 4. Their first few albums were decent but the rest since have sucked ass. Their music doesn't come close to Megadeth, Metallica or Slayer. At All. Exodus or TEstament should have been in the Big 4 before Anthrax, much more deserving. By far.

Just shut your fuckin mouth you tool. Ever consider you don't sell well because your fans don't like you anymore?

I don't care if Scott Ian is a fuggin' moron. His job is to STFU and write, play riffs..that's it. I support that! I FULLY support, defend, and share my wealth of knowledge and enthusiam of the music I love most...metal! That wealth came out of my own pocket over 3 decades, and 6000+ TRUE metal cds later!

                          I don't know.
The only thing that comes to mind is that most of these acts would not have gotten off the ground without the tape trading that existed back then.

Then again Anthrax wasn't one of my big 3 back then. Still aren't, but, I respect where they came from.

To me, Anthrax wasn't even in my big 20!! But they were cool as hell! They had a shit period like alot of known metal bands/shredders in the mid 90's..Dime (RIP) helped with that. But tape trading, word of mouth, patches on your jacket, T-shirts, bumper stickers, posters..ect. Metalhead became walkin', talkin' billboards for their faves..I'm from that school.

I'm also from the school that got excited about my favorite bands new album. Taking it out of the plastic and putting it on my stereo not knowing what to expect. Alot of times leaving me a little dissapointed. But when it was awesome..it felt like you were the only one in the world that knew it. Unless you were listening with a friend sharing that moment. I remember listening to VH1 and Eruption back in '78 with by best friend. That dude learned it that week note for note. I was in that VH trib with him. That memory is carved in stone. I still have that very record! Priceless!

I never lost touch with that magic..it's all I have left for myself. Metal always gave me that joy, and I won't let any "spoiler" spoil that. I avoid reviews and make my own judgements. So, I spent an average of $13 to support a band that brings me priceless joy. Call me a throwback, douche, elitist, whatever..I wouldn't change it for the world.

Sounds like a Lars Ulrich bitch session about Napster.
                              Think he'll sue somebody?

Bill- I remeber those days. A denim jacket COVERED with buttons and patches, and the entire back of mine was the album cover for South Of Heaven.
