WTF? The Big Four isnt just some Metallica creation, Christ almighty I cant believe I'm reading this shit. Metallica are a lot of things, some good, some bad, but crediting them with creating the "Big Four" tag? Fucking hell.

Anthrax are part of the big 4 because they SOLD a lot of albums back in the day. MORE than also rans like Exodus or Testament or any of those other bands. Yes, even my own favourite Annihilator, who so many of you Americans dont seem to care for, bizarrely.

I dont understand it when people try to rewrite history and take Anthrax out of the Big 4. Back then, those were the biggest bands in thrash its as fuckin simple as that.

    Still though:

    Fuck Scott Ian.

    AND Charlie Benante.

Scott Ian is an idiot. They have problems filling up clubs, let alone anything like a colosseum or stadium like they did in the 90's.

Anthrax peaked their musical talent with Spreading the Disease.

Among the Living was their attempt at commercial fad-ism after seeing how well SOD did and saw how much money they could get (which, really, isn't a whole lot by anyone's comparisons) if they sold out, which they subsequently did and started really posing for it.

So really, Anthrax hasn't mattered in nearly two decades and whatever Scott Ian says is more like a reflection of what once was and current over-expectations mixed with the bitterness that nobody cares anymore.

The only people who would probably buy their music now probably already did, and that's why he's pissed...

He would have a point if bands like Killswitch Engage or Avenged Sevenfold weren't SELLING millions of records but the fact is.. they are.
The reason he isn't selling millions or even hundreds of thousands of records is because Anthrax fans are all almost 50 years old and not running out to buy records anymore. They also peaked almost 30 years ago. Piracy sucks but every band or artist is effected by it equally.

And another thing.. even when the band was at the peak of their careers and popularity they still weren't selling that many records.
How many years did they actually headline shows and sell out arena's? I don't recall them ever being as popular as bands like Priest or Maiden or Scorpions or Ozzy or Metallica or Whitesnake or Poison or Motley Crue. I can go on and on with bands that would sell out world tours back in the day. I don't recall Anthrax being one of them. Stop crying Scott. I'm not selling anymore records either. Heck, its even hard to get a good local gig anymore or sell any records at all and my metal band sounds better and we write better than we did in the 80's.
Its hard to get kids to buy your records when you are old enough to be their dad (or their grandpa!! )

Scott Ian gets the most publicity for the band when he rants on the web or he changes endorsement deals. I think he is cool but he isn't even relevant to me anymore. Sounds like an old guy crying sour grapes. Just like me.

Hey, I'm only 39! The new album is quite good, though.

Also, John, you should check out the new Opeth... Heritage. It's quite like Damnation with clean vocals and no death metal elements at all. Very old-school prog-type to me, King Crimson meets Deep Purple, etc.

Alot of times leaving me a little dissapointed. But when it was awesome..it felt like you were the only one in the world that knew it. Unless you were listening with a friend sharing that moment. I remember listening to VH1 and Eruption back in '78 with by best friend. That dude learned it that week note for note. I was in that VH trib with him. That memory is carved in stone. I still have that very record! Priceless!

I never lost touch with that magic..it's all I have left for myself. Metal always gave me that joy, and I won't let any "spoiler" spoil that. I avoid reviews and make my own judgements. So, I spent an average of $13 to support a band that brings me priceless joy. Call me a throwback, douche, elitist, whatever..I wouldn't change it for the world.
In Bristol, UK we were called "Jitters" and we were proud of it! Ripped jeans, leather/denim jacket, patches, long hair, DrMartin boots, attitude. What was funny though was that most people in the the scene could play and were knowledgeble about the music. Now it all seems to be about image, I meet plenty of people now who have the image that was just taken for granted back then, but they know nothing of the music and can't even play.

Perfect summation of the problem right there.

I was on the Opeth train from '98 to about 2005 or so. I haven't listened to them for a while. I burned a copy of Damnation for my dad, and he loved it. So I burned 'Still Life'..and he was like WTF is this shit??!!

So I'll grab a copy of this one and gain his trust again. He likes music to relax to..he's the REAL Puff Daddy! All he listens to is BB King.

I tried to teach my dad some blues stuff. So I was just fuggin' 'round playing my usual box patterns at my normal speed. He shouted "that's not the fuckn' blues..that's bullshit noise". So I slowed it down really slow to show him note for note and he said "Now that's the blues". I told him it was exacfly what I was playing...but he didn't believe me.

                            I'm not a blues player..

I seem to remember Scott Ian himself saying on That Metal Show that the Big 4 tour was created not by promoters or PR guys. Rather Metalllica conceived the idea and invited Anthrax to participate.

                              Oh, and Fuck Scott Ian.

Classic! I try to play the blues, too, but I usually play it a little too fast...
