I seem to remember Scott Ian himself saying on That Metal Show that the Big 4 tour was created not by promoters or PR guys. Rather Metalllica conceived the idea and invited Anthrax to participate.
Oh, and Fuck Scott Ian.
Yes, this new Big 4 tour got rolling by Metallica, but the Big 4 bands from the '80s and early '90s were Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax.

I'm pulling this out of my ass but re: the Antrax popularity/show size... I saw them with Exodus and Helloween and someone else too (maybe a local band) and I think it was the MTV Headbanger's Ball tour. This was in the late 80's/early 90's and I remember they did their whole "I'm the man" rap song stuff, Joey was still singing for them, etc. so it was, arguably, the height of their popularity.
It was somewhere in Danville or something, it wasn't very big at all. It seemed like it wasn't even as big as the gym at my high school.

Good luck, Scott.
I also saw them on the first Headbangers Ball tour... Anthrax, Exodus and Helloween. It was at the Felt Forum, which was basically the basement of Madison Square Garden. So it was big, but not all that big... and I think it was '89.
I also saw Anthrax, Exodus and Celtic Frost a couple years before, on the Among The Living tour, and it was at a decent size theater which I believe sold out.

I was on the Opeth train from '98 to about 2005 or so. I haven't listened to them for a while. I burned a copy of Damnation for my dad, and he loved it. So I burned 'Still Life'..and he was like WTF is this shit??!!
So I'll grab a copy of this one and gain his trust again. He likes music to relax to..he's the REAL Puff Daddy! All he listens to is BB King.
I tried to teach my dad some blues stuff. So I was just fuggin' 'round playing my usual box patterns at my normal speed. He shouted "that's not the fuckn' blues..that's bullshit noise". So I slowed it down really slow to show him note for note and he said "Now that's the blues". I told him it was exacfly what I was playing...but he didn't believe me.
I'm not a blues player..
Check out Slither Bill, kind of an Uli vibe to it I think you'll dig. It even sounds like the 70's!
I shared a rehearsal space with Anthrax at Trilogy Studios in New Rochelle, NY. They were 2 rooms down from my band. We were both there and paid by the month for about a year. I don't ever recall them headlining an arena. They usually played with several bands.
Wow..I love that tune. Yeah..late 70's Rainbow! Holy Blackmore it sound like they're playing Strats. I love that bite. Prolly still PRS with coil taps. Yeah Uli-ish. This would sound like Yngwie if he actually played nice with others, instead of "Hey", I wrote this entire song around my new arpeggio" . Instead of the othr way around. But I love the Yngwinator..he's silly!
All the old Strat gods have hot young wives...Ritchie, Yngwie, Uli..ect. Old, fat chicks like pointy guitars.
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

They actually are playing Strats on the album, as well as their PRS and a bunch of other guitars...

lol. Still Life is one of their best albums, but I pretty much stopped listening to them by the time BWP was released and haven't really cared for much that they've done since.
