  • Loeb 8

Years ago I wouldn't have believed that anyone will be as good as the Finns in rally but actually getting as many titles as Kankkunen and Mäkinen combined 8 years in a row in the most difficult mainstream car racing series in the world is pretty fucking ridiculous, not to mention breaking all the other records (most race and stage wins, most points, most podiums).

I don't get it why he continues in WRC? He's got nothing to prove. Much better challenge would be trying something else, closed circuits, maybe open wheeled cars, he says he's too old for F1 but he's beaten many formula drivers on circuits not to mention making Schumacher his bitch, not too surprising though as rally drivers usually win on Race of Champions.

The question would be 'what challenge would be more thrilling?'

I don't know what could top:
Trees left and right, blind fast curve, brakes are fading, cracked windshield, speed 190+, and some other adrenalin nut next to you suddenly screaming "HARD RIGHT!"

...or from the other seat's PoV:
Trees left and right, blind fast curve, brakes are fading, cracked windshield, speed 190+, almost impossible to read the map due to all the bumps and potholes, and when you scream "HARD RIGHT" you pray to god that the guy holding the wheel will actually make that turn

he hasn't done too bad for a gymnast, eh?

I haven't followed WRC in years (Loeb's 2nd or 3rd season I guess). I hear that pretty much all of the manufacturers aren't even competing anymore. It's just Ford and Citroen lol

Pretty much, blame the idiots from FIA, they tried to regulate the car performances, mostly to stop Loeb from winning... yeah, that turned out pretty well. Other manufacturers lost interest. Luckily there's plenty of amazing drivers Hirvonen, Latvala, Ogier, Solberg etc.

I just bought Dirt 3 for my computer on the weekend to bring out my inner rally nerd. I need to buy a steering wheel for my computer though because trying to drive a 500HP rally car where the controls are all switches (keys) is bad news.

I lost interest when manufacturers started going away. I miss the older days. It may turn around again someday. I'm hoping anyways.

                *peh*

If these guys could really drive, they would've made a totally awesome movie about it. Like The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift or Talladega Nights

G, many actually believe this shit. Those crappy FF flicks definitely have had their influence, the worst wast the Tokyo Drift thing. That's how retards drive, drifting makes you incredibly slow in the corners. The reason why Loeb is the greatest driver in the world right now is because he takes the corners faster than anyone, it's all about how fast you exit the corners.

E, I totally wanna put slicks on the back of my car so I can go around corners as slowly as I possibly can, but sideways. Now THAT's racing! Or race speedway, so you only have to concentrate on turning in one direction

Hellbat, tell me how Dirt 3 is. I've been looking at that one for ages. Picked up a cheap secondhand Microsoft steering wheel a while back and it makes driving games hella fun

Well, it's pretty good G, but it has a bunch of drifting/gymkhana stages in it that are impossible to pick up points on controlling with a keyboard. So at this point I'm kind of stuck for making progress in career mode. The other cheesy thing is you don't really unlock cars as you go, if you want all the cars and track you have to purchase them with Microsoft points. Gotta love software that follows the razor/razorblades marketing model.

thanks for the mini-review, HB. I might hire the thing out one weekend before dropping any cash on it. In the meantime, Forza is satisfying my driving fix.
