Quitting my band

I have a few questions.. are you a hired gun in the band or an = member? If you are an = member then you shouldn't have to quit the band. Just tell your bandmates whats up and how its gonna be. Bailing out is the wrong approach. If you are an important member of the band then you should have an = say to whats going on. Asking for some Saturday nights off isn't life altering unless of course you are under contract or something. Regarding the drama.. thats all it is... drama. Forget about it and focus on the band and the music. Thats my .02.

I would but its his house we practice in, its his son whos is the other guitarist. Ive tried to fix this issue before and its never worked. Its time to move on. Yes In theory Im an equal member, but I have NEVER been treated like one. Im just so tired of his shit. His bitch ass wife was just the icing on the cake.

actually, i agree with jg and javert....try to work it out. if you can't, at least give them 30 days. that way you fulfill the gigs that were already scheduled and they have time to train a replacement. remember how tough it was with the drummer? (i think that was your band)

I may over stated my position in the band with the "they better find someone quick or learn my parts thing", I was mad. All they will lose are the solos everyone is used to and the clean part to one song. Theyve dropped that song in the past simply because the other guitarist didnt want to take the time to listen to the recording and see that its dead simple. Theyll lose a little dynamic, but theyre not fucked without me, but Ill be much, much happier to immediately step away from all the gigging and BS and so will the wife, and her happiness is worth way more than their comfort level on stage for the next few shows. It sucked hard when the old drummer quit, but thats because you dont have a band without the drummer(and I think they know this), with one guitarist, theyll do ok, not spectacular, but adequate.

Yes it does. Thats one position I wont put my self in in the future. I will never join a family band again. Im seriously considering not joining a band that has any plans or delusions of making it big in the future either. Not while we have small kids in the house and the wife works second shift anyway. Maybe in the distant future, but not any time soon. I dont need to gig constantly to be happy playing anyhow. Im gonna let things cool off for a little while and give the wife and I some time to get reacquainted then I may go out and try to find some guys that just wanna jam on the weekends and maybe do a festival or private party a couple times a year. Im apparently just not in a position for anything more than that right now.

Follow what you feel is right. Damn hard at times to walk away from a band. Hell.....never easy. Who will be there as the years go flying by, you gotta ask yourself that.I asked myself. Do what you have to, but don't burn any bridges. Things can come full circle and you may be in with them again. It happens. I had it happen to me in a way. I'm happy with my decisions, although I wasn't at the time. It turned out for the better in the long run.

Singer will get over it eventually. His wife on the other hand, probably not. My wife sent her a 1300 word explanation as to whats going on since the issue was they werent understanding what I was saying, so she wrote a note from the horses mouth. After that the singers wife unfriended both me and my wife on FB(were terribly hurt BTW). Seems the singers wife hasnt matured past grade school. Youre not my friend anymore :P .
