The only band in that list that was actually really "grunge" or that mostly defined it was Soundgarden, everything else that came after them (and were influenced by them to a degree) from Seattle got the "grunge" moniker. Doesn't really matter, however Soundgarden started it and defined it before anyone else, i think the common consensus from most people around in the scene during the early days is most would identify grunge as early Soundgarden.

It's hard to define "grunge" because there were only a handful of important grunge bands, they were musically all over the map, and that whole scene imploded pretty quickly. That being said, yeah AiC was grunge. Grunge...with guitar solos!!_________________________________________________
