With all due respect, this poll needs a "none of the above" choice.

Seriously, I don't mind "grunge". I'm not all offended by it as a "metal killer" or whatever. AIC was cool, etc.

However, I will say that I cannot stand Pearl Jam. Worst music ever.

My brother turned me onto them. I never looked at AIC as some kind of grunge thing movement. They were just heavy. IMO, somewhat lumped in because of location of residence.. I became a fan of Cantrell. I still am.

Never really liked Nirvana or Peal Jam. Recognized the talent in Soundgarden, but just couldn't get into them. Loved AIC and still do.

Pearl Jam, liked their dual guitar intricacies, grunge or not...

                    Exactly.

Queensryche was amazing when they first came out. I saw them open for the Dio Holy Diver tour, and QR was absolutely amazing... they were much less glam and were much more thrashy. Blaring double bass drums and they were clad in leather like Judas Priest. Unfortunately, they did get more glammy afterwards, but seeing them in the beginning was definitely memorable.

I had friends in Seattle at the time and we got a pressing of their first EP and we were just blown away. They were like an American Iron Maiden to us. I was super psyched when the full Warning album came out. I wore out 3 copies on cassette. (admittedly my cheap Walkman knockoff ate one for a snack...)

Pearl Jam because the guys actually tried, and played, decent guitar solos from time to time.

Soundgarden because they proved that you don't have to be awesome guitar players to write and play good, interesting, different music.

Nirvana because they proved you can be a rock star and still want to shoot yourself in the face.

Their first album is excellent. It's so heavily blues-rock driven that I have a hard time calling it a traditional grunge album. The rest are just "meh" to me. Plus I take away points from never having seen them live since they never played San Antonio due to all the venues controlled by ticketmaster, as if it's my fault they have a war with ticketmaster. So they're on a very tiny list of bands I've wanted to see but never got to.

Saw Soundgarden open for Voivod on their "Nothingface tour" in 1990. Singer tried to be all cool and shit and stage-dived. The crowd parted like the red sea, and he face-planted concrete just 5 inches away from me. I helped Cornell get his ass back on stage afterwards but he was pretty fucked and out of it for the rest of the show. Most amusing.
