Definitely not iconic. Successfull, but not iconic. Unlikely any Maiden songs could be considered iconic in the mainstream, either. You're talking huge airplay and extremely wide appeal; you're talking Stairway to Heaven or Hotel California big. As far as rock/metal music goes, it's tough. Enter Sandman, maybe? Cherry Pie? Crazy Train, certainly. Rock You Like a Hurricane, perhaps.

Yup. Forgot about Money for Nothin, good one!

And the Still of the Night intro is pretty legendary too.

Surprised Breaking The Law hasn't been mentioned, too.

-Does Gary Moore's Still got the blues count?

Wow after seeing all these lists, I realized how many songs are overplayed on the radio, good and bad.

Not really songs I like a lot, but that isn't the point of this thread.... Iconic riffs that bring visions of the guitar to mind are:

                          Aqualung
                          Crazy on you
                          black dog
                          walk this way
                          panama
Enjoying a rum and coke, just didn't have any coke...

More people would be more likely to think "Italian car with an American V8" than a band. Also, Zakk Wylde is the arbiter of icon status. I never knew that about him, I thought he was just the lord of pinch harmonic abuse.

Chugga Chugga *Ping* I dub thee an icon! Chugga Chugga *Ping* You're an icon too, buddy! Chugga Chugga *Ping* Thou art an icon!

                            Pantera bread?

I don't know about iconic but possibly they are the most over-rated and hyped metal band ever.
