What is a good first car?

Get I Honda, Toyota, or a Nissan. if ytou get the right one you can have both worlds. Oh and stay away from the third gen F-body cars (camaros, firebirds) rattling death traps. I owned one and yeah it was fast but you hit a bump too hard and they will start over heating. They have terrible ducting to the radiator. I drive an 84 Toyota Supra and it runs drives and is fun to drive. The inline 6 is snappy and the steep rear diff makes it move like it has more power......and did I mention reliable?

don't forget the underbody neons and speed bump scraping suspension. You don't want to be able to get up your driveway anyway. A garaged car is a car that your neighbours can't drool over.

I'm thinking of turning over my DD '96 (UGLY) Nissan Maxima to my first time driver.
It's all that, reliable, easy to drive...gas sipper.
I used to HATE that car.
My DD was an 87 Monte Carlo SS, now garaged waiting for a paint job.

Price 'o gas is what changed my mindset.
Axegrinder saw the MCSS, he can vouch.
She has potential and now I have my doubts about putting it back on the road full time.
Thinking about having Jr. just saving up for a Crown Vic or sumpin' at this point.

I want to keep driving the Maxima to the ground.
Did I mention I hated that car?

Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla. A good first car is a reliable car that your not spending more time and money fixing than driving. They also are i4's so gas mileage is really good. With the cost of gas you don't want one the gets 12 MPG's and taking all of you liquid cash.

You want to stay away from fast sports cars as your car insurance will be far too costly.

Finally, a sensible answer, lol. I absolutely agree. Gas friendly and reliable. Nothing more frustrating for a 16 year old is buying an unreliable piece of crap and staring at it more than driving it.

nope. its only stock appearance wise. which is rare. the car wasnt loved before i got it tho, and had a pretty nasty rod knock. so i got my hands on a few parts from 2s r us and bumped it up a lil bit. which was damn stupid, because its fucking EVIL. snap oversteer, wheelspin at 100 in the top of 3rd gear, i wont let anybody drive it, and my wife wont even go within 50 feet of it. shes scared to death of it. its got that colorshifting green pearl paint on it, which is original to the car and only to mr2s and 93-94 supras. it was beautiful when i got it 7 years ago, but now the clear is peeling, so im gonna have it redone at 1000 bucks a gallon. and while im at it i may as well find some original leather seats for it as well, cuz the blue cloth doesnt exactly make me happy. but i gotta get a daily first. tired of having half the seat up my ass every time it rains.
