When she first came on the scene it was in that video with Steve Vai. She was portrayed as being a Vai-level guitarist because of that association and she is definitely not on that level. Face it, if she looked like Mick Mars Vai would not have been interested in the collaboration. She is a decent guitarist for a girl, but not that outstanding. Chelsea Constable absolutely destroys her, but is not as cute, so is relatively ignored by comparison. I think that is the main reason for a backlash on Orianthi, she is riding her looks.

I think it's reached the point where she's created a "brand" for herself. Guys like Alice Cooper and Michael Jackson possibly want her not for her playing, or even that she's good looking, but more that she has an established fan base at this point that will come see them who wouldn't otherwise if she was not in the band.

Not virtuosos, but pretty damn good overall, this is Show-Ya from Japan. They were Japan's answer to Vixen in the late 80s and early 90s but never broke in the US market because most of the words are in Japanese. They actually have a lot of good tunes though and are all pretty good players. This is the lead video from thei 2012 album Genuine Diamond. They look a lot better than most 80s metalers who are still around too!
