Carcass got so annoyed with the "non sell-out" metal scene they split up!

Mark, you might remember that all the talk in Tampa in the mid 90's was about all these new death metal bands coming up playing the same old shit and no-one doing anything different.

    Who sold out there?

I don't hate Nickleback because they sold out, I hate them because they are pricks.

Play what you want, and fuck everyone else. I will play in "scummy sausage fest bars" because that is the only outlet locally for my style. I don't even care if anyone shows up. If I wanted to make money in music I would have gone into business and become a producer.

        what's a Nickelback..?

I heard a song on the radio on my way to the drug store. I heard solos I knew were Zakk Wylde. My kid told me that was Nickelback. Did he record a song with them? No, I'm not googlin' it..I don't care that much really.
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
        Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

Carcass started me on metal. I'm probably biased because of this but the sound they had on Heartwork was incredible and absolutely nothing compares for me. I saw them live when they reunited in 2008 and I couldn't even believe it happened. I started listening to them after they broke up so I thought such a thing would never happen! Literally in the front on a small venue maybe six feet away from Mike Amott playing Carcass songs.

Anyway, I try not to get into personalities and gossip crap. If you want that then follow Hollywood stars that literally do nothing besides be famous. It baffles me that such a thing exists, but whatever. If a band makes music I enjoy that's enough for me.

thank you too, but from another perspective, Jerry Cantrell, whom i adore, loves this band, showing ever more proof
that everyone hears things differently, as do I.

hahaha, yeah...almost everyone was doing the same thing. the sad thing is that when bands tried to change, they lost fans. it is part of what killed the scene here - it was/is damned if you do, damned if you don't. my band did great in the '90s because we WERE different and always were....
                    GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

                    and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

speaking of Florida Bands, i always thought Dave Scott of Tuff Luck was one tasty bad motherfucker on guitar. i saw them in florida and new york many times, he was very good. so was their bass player Jackpot James Marino, and their drummer Todd who died tragically.

I hate their stuff but my GAWD do they make a pile of money...unreal.

I'd like to have the money - I'd hate to play those songs. They probably love those songs and they are rich as F so, oh well...
My Duncan Designed pickups are way better than Seymour Duncan regular pickups you fanboy.

Yeah...too bad the forum doesn't have a minimum IQ.

I'm not really a fan of Nickelback or Godsmack, but Godsmack's drummer (Shannon Larkin... ex Wrathchild America, Souls At Zero, Ugly Kid Joe) is one of the best drummers ever!

Way i see it, now is, no matter the music style, writing a good song or piece that sticks is hard, it's an art. So at some point when you realize that, it's hard to bag on anybody (who does it themselves that is) it's like if someone can pull it off, i'm impressed. (Those who do it themselves) In pop music is more rare. Like i wouldn't be surprised if Desmond Child writes songs for Nickleback, maybe not, but like Bon Jovi got where he is today with help from him, and about a zillion other Huge bands that we all know.

However in metal, those type of bands usually write their own shit. And it just happens to float my boat. I can't write pop tunes like that worth a shit if i tried, it's not me. For the most part i like metal, usually the heavier the better, because that's how i feel, so that's what comes out. When i pick up a guitar, it's to rage out, i can't plug in a distorted guitar and not want to raaarrrgh bzzzzzzzt Fuck Yeah! Raawk! It's what made me want to play guitar in the first place.

But anyway Nickleback can come on the radio and i don't scramble to change the channel, i don't care either way, i wouldn't say they suck, only songs i know of them is the driving eating pussy song,
and the one with Billy Gibbons in it. I like driving and i like eating pussy, and it kinda rocks so i turn it up (I think that's the point). But that's exactly what those bands want to be. . I don't think i could write a song about that like that, but more power to em. I wouldn't say they are any different than Bon Jovi, Ratt, ect or any of those bands whose sole desire was to be on the radio back then. And while i did like me some Ratt here and there, hell they were one of the first "metal" bands i ever heard on the local LA rock station before they even had a major label. But, it was only because i hadn't heard Suicidal or Slayer yet . While i'd still check in on the Ratts, Motley Crue ect here and there, it was only within about a year or so of hearing that stuff i was already gravitating to whatever was more and more heavy,..or people that didn't have socks stuffed in their groins

Oh, no shit? If he was the drummer in Wrathchild America, the dude earned and deserves it.

good points, and it has always been about the song, not the ability.
