Like 'em or hate 'em, say hello to this generation's version of Def Leppard. I'd venture a bet that alot of the hate for Nickelback stems back to the old cliche that no self-respecting guy would dare get caught listening to music that his girl likes. Call 'em a sellout if you want, but that just brings to mind that famous line from Lars Ulrich. Damn right they sell out. They sell out every show. I'm sure someone will pipe in now with some show that happened somewhere that didn't sell completely out, but that leads me to a question. How many of you have sold even remotely close to the ticket sales they have? Somebody sure likes them. Go ahead and fuck with me about it if you want, but yeah, I like em. Go ahead and judge them by their radio hits, but those are put out there for a purpose and that is to grab attention and generate interest, which they do. Write them off as whatever stereotype you want. It won't change the fact that they are a success story and they actually break into some pretty cool shit at their concerts. Commercially they put out catchy tunes about partying and sex. Sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll! Ah yes! Wait, isn't that why 90% of people get into the music business to begin with? Now you hardcore fuckers go ahead and pipe in with some bullshit story that you got into it for some other line of crap, but that's exactly what it is... a line of crap, despite what you try to get us to believe.

Dude dont bust a gasket. If you like em thats your personal choice, and thats cool. its like i said they got my respect cuz they arent following the trend of autotune and rap and so on. at least theyre helping keep rock alive. incedentally, i forgot about that song they did called breathe. that was a good one. but the rest of their stuff im not a fan of. i can stomach it though.
Let me tell you about a porcupine's balls.... They're small, and they don't give a shit!

I'm not busting a gasket, as you say. What I am doing is making certain points and voicing my opinions and beliefs just like everyone else here. Don't like the way I worded it? You'll get over it. You're the one speaking like my words were aimed at you. I spoke them in general.

My fiance listens to all kinds of metal, pretty much the same as I do... thrash, death, black metal, whatever. She hates most glam and pop rock. She rules!

Yep, that was him. And one of the guitar players used to be on this forum years ago, can't remember if it was Jay or Terry.

my wife was more of a hardcore girl, but i converted her to metal - though we also enjoy goth, industrial, and occasionally some cheese metal from the 80s. lately we have been on a ghost kick - and rediscovering the mercyful fate catalog...

Nice. I met her in a bar on a Friday night... it was karaoke night. Someone was singing some Poison song... she screamed "Poison? Who would admit to liking them?!?" I said she probably did like 20 years ago, then she proceeded to tell me no, she liked Mercyful Fate, Testament, Slayer, Exodus, Overkill, Iron Maiden, etc. We do also enjoy some hardcore, goth, industrial, some lighter stuff. I don't mind some of the '80s cheese, but she can't stand it, and she also can't understand how anyone could actually like a guy who dressed up like a chick!

cool. sounds you grabbed a winner!! i know i did. it is cool because she supports the band and everything. this year alone, i have already bought 5 new guitars at her push. she is learning bass, so i went and got her a musicman stingray because they had one she liked in a metallic green color along with a baby ampeg SVT rig. it is fun. we don't plan on having any kids - she is in her 40s and i am in my late 30s - so the eventual plan is to get her in her own band.

Very cool! Mine is definitely a keeper. She actually gave me a gift card for Carvin last year and I put that towards the custom 7-string I ordered. She doesn't care what kind of gear I buy or when I buy it, and she even wants to learn to play guitar and drums. I'll be 40 this year and she'll be 43.

Indeed! We've seen Overkill twice already. Going to see them again this Saturday in NYC.
