Hey guys, thanks again for your positive thoughts. I'll update: There was no rib bruise or fracture, so it was intercostal bruising after all. Sure hurt at the end of my breath though. Later that week, my shoulder was hurting more than my chest, so I went back & got my rt shoulder X-rayed. No breaks there either, so just muscle damage there also. The ibuprofen wasn't doing much, so I asked the doc for something stronger; he got wrote me a scrip for Vicodin ($16.99 for 30 pills at Target, WTF? I wanted that $4 generic ha ha). Doc had said he was concerned about "drowsiness & addiction issues". I told him he didn't to worry about that last part - I really don't experience the whole "addicted to pain pills BS" that I hear about from others & read in the papers. I just don't get that.

So I got that whole first week off of work, but as I said the doc told me I couldn't do any exercise. I tried to get lots of rest, but sure enough, I gained about 10-12 lbs back

I went back to work and slowly recovered: my giant scabs mostly healed up, but my rt shoulder is still sore. Last weekend I went on a 20 mile road trip on the bike (Saturday) and then the next day I felt good enough to do 6 miles on an off-road trail (Fullerton Loop - 1st time!). Kicked my ass! Couldn't do the whole loop (12 miles).

I did a little bit of riding around town yesterday (checked for local Wi-Fi on my new iPhone).
I'll see how my shoulder feels this week; maybe I'll visit the doc again.

        Ron, glad it wasn't worse!

Get some PT, move that stuff around and glad you're back on the horse.

You should ice the shoulder periodically. It is the most basic, yet one of the most effective things that you can do. Also, after ice - hit it with a heating pad or a hot water bottle.

Yeah...too bad the forum doesn't have a minimum IQ.

This is exactly what my doc told me, but I'm so lazy!

All right *gets reusable cold compress from freezer*

Now to find that heating pad...

Frozen peas also work nicely. Glad you're on the mend.

OK, well, how often do I have to do this? Can't do it at work.

Oh, it's a bike picture thread too...

Comes in a couple grams under 23 lbs.

good question. For all the fussing over Ron's injury, this is the first time anyone asked about the road's welfare

Fair point... my guess is that when the road becomes a JCF fixture with 35,000+ posts it's welfare will get plenty of fussing
