  • Need help with old news story

    Hello,

I'm working on a project and I need to find some information. I've been looking in google and wikki but I can't seem to find anything on this specific story and I was hoping someone here might remember something about it and be able to fill in some blanks.

The story as I remember it was this, there is an artist who was using cadavers that were donated for research to make art pieces. As the story went a lady went into an art exhibit and recognized either her dead father or dead grandfather in one of the pieces. It was also said that Prince Charles owns one or more of these (not on display they are apparently in a vault)

Anyone remember anything about this? Know the artists name? I'm a bit sketchy on the details as this was from a while ago.

As for the project, no I'm not planning on making art out of dead people Though it might help me in my death metal career.

Oh, also until this lady saw her family member no one apparently knew or realized these were made with people. it wasn't like the human anatomy exhibits.

I believe these exhibits are titled "bodyworks" or something similar. We went to a showing at the Luxor in Vegas 3 or 4 years ago.

        Edit* It's Body Worlds... http://www.bodyworlds.com/en.html

No like I said this wasn't one of the anatomy exhibits. I've been to that in the Luxor, this was art pieces in frames and no one was told they were human bodies. This might have been the genesis for the stuff though. This took place in the UK somewhere. This apparently caused a serious stir as the bodies were meant for science or medical stuff.

I think I found the guy

British artist Anthony-Noel Kelly followed in the footsteps of many artists before him, including Michelangelo, when he closely studied human body parts for his work. But unlike those artists, Kelly illegally smuggled human remains from the Royal College of Surgeons and used them to cast sculptures in plaster and silver paint. Kelly was found guilty of this unusual crime in 1998 and spend nine months in jail. The sculptures can still be seen on his website, anthony-noelkelly.com.
