Hi John! You never realized that Gonna Get Close To You was a cover tune? Scary how close to the original it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-e-lZekd2Y

wow. that's fucked up. queensryche did it almost EXACTLY like the original. i wonder if it was tate's idea or the label's. weren't queensryche on EMI also?

Yes, they were also on EMI with her. She did the song a year before and, from what I remember, QR liked it and decided to cover it. I don't think Lisa got much exposure outside of Canada.

Assuming time and bad life choices haven't harmed my memory too much, but I believe Tate and DeGarmo saw the video on Muchmusic while on tour in Canada and they both really liked the song and decided to cover it. The scary part is Tate appeared to try to look like Lisa Dalbello too!

Hey there Wow, no, I never knew it was a cover. Somehow, that's even more unpleasant. Usually when I cover something, it's because I find it great. If that is the case, I question some of their decision making. lol... Especially without changing it drastically.

And yeah, Geoff always was a (obviously purposely) weird lookin' kinda guy huh? There was a period of normalcy in his image, but early and late Geoff, he's an odd bird.

I wonder if that was a mandated cover. A friend's band signed to Universal were forced to do a cover for their CD's release. As well as use (pay) a producer they didn't want that Universal did want. Which was very messed, as the material was already done a year earlier, produced and released on CD already by a smaller label that Universal bought the rights of the CD from. And the producer didn't really do much except get paid and piss them off I guess.

Needless to say, they did the 3 record contract, left Universal and are self published now and just use a marketing firm. Tis the way of the future now.

Chris left because Susan Tate had become their Yoko and was angling to become their manager, which did happen after CDG left. However, Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield were actually the 3 founding members of Queensryche and were the metal center of the band. Tate and DeGarmo were great at first, but they also were the ones who decided to become Pink Floyd (PL), and when that didn't work, Pearl Jam (HITNF), so you could say they l;ed the suck just as they led the greatness.

Chris bailed because of Yoko/Susan, then Tate gradually took more control as they got shittier and shittier. Cabaret and DTC finally made them complete laughingstocks, Geoff's wife had porn-themed women's undies in their merch store, and Geoff's voice has also gone to shit. He sings classic songs like a Broadway shiller now. The 3 guys who started the band deserve a chance to resurrect what it once was. I have high hopes, but we'll have to see. At least the live shows will be full of killer stuff again!

Court documents are available online now. It's interesting, but sad in a way, to read them. Geoff is clearly suffering from delusions of grandeur and the rest of the band, especially Michael Wilton, come off as completely justified in their actions.

Hopefully it's alright that I link another forum in this case. If not, feel free to remove it. A quick Google search will yield the same page.

Wow. After reading through those I have to wonder... why in the HELL didn't any of the other guys in the band kick the fuck out of Geoff's ass???? That's some top notch douche-baggery that dude was pulling on everyone.

I gotta disagree with the band's assertion that he caused them to have lower record sales. Just about every band from his era sells fewer albums now than they did in the late 80's/arly 90's. Shit. Just about every band in any form of music outside of pop and rap sees smaller record sales than in the past.

And his side of the story was Wilton was telling him they're gonna kick him out and he was all alone, goading him into assaulting Wilton. I am not justifying that assault but it wasn't unprovoked if true. But I guess that's why there are hearings to sort that kind of shit out.

Well, no. Their assertion isn't that his actions caused their decline from their peak, it's that the past few albums (beginning with O:MC2) wherein he completely commandeered the writing/recording process had continually sold poorly, each worst than the last, resulting in a devaluing of the brand combined with his other actions (i.e. - Queensryche Cabaret, telling audiences they suck, etc.).

Again, no. His claim is that *Rockenfield* told him, "We just fired your whole family, and you're next." He then *tried* to throw a punch but was restrained. He then "pushed" Michael Wilton as he passed by him.

Unfortunately, everyone else that was present from band members to road crew present a (consistent) different version of events. Perhaps you should re-read the declarations? You appear to have gotten quite a few points wrong, no offense.
