  • Queensryche tosses Geoff Tate to the Curb

Adios, you Tony Stark-goatee and eyeliner wearing bastitch. Now you can make more terrible solo material and wine. Now bring back Chris DeGarmo!

Something is old news after 2 hours? ;p

(I know it was pretty obvious that it was going to happen, but I mean confirmation didn't happen until today. Plus, my shock isn't so much the parting of ways but that they kept the name.)

I loved geoff tates vocals on their classic albums like operation mindcrime and empire, but all good things come to end I suppose. I didn't like any of their new stuff after empire.

I hope the new singer could sing good; if not, I have the original Queensryche on my ipod.

Another fine example of a band name needing to be retired once a defining member leaves.

Agreed to an extent, but to me that should have happened in 1997 when DeGarmo left. The band changed for the worst after that, steadily going downhill. Thie new guy can sing decently, not exactly to Geoff's level at his prime but much closer than Geoff can reach these days.

No, this had been thru the ringer somewhere else. I read about it (can't remember where) a week, maybe two weeks ago.

I had mixed feelings. Queensryche was one of my favorite groups for all of their stuff up into Empire (haven't given Promised Land a good listen yet). In a sense it makes me sad, like a friend passing away, but then again they've never seem to have the kick ass stuff that I loved when they were new. I remember seeing the video for the Queen of the Ryche for the first time in the 80s and thought it was the most awesome thing I had ever seen!

I still have my unpainted ESP M-1 Custom with cross inlays that I was going to have done in a Queensryche style, but now I just don't know.

Officially Queensryche as of 6/20/12 - The debut show of Rising West (Queensryche) with the mind blowing Todd La Torre (Crimson Glory) on vocals! The buzz fr...

The Rising West news was a couple weeks old. That they are getting to go forward as Queensryche is news. Apparently Tate decided not to fight that or found that he couldn't do so. Until today there was speculation of a fight over the name or even two different Queensryches like the L.A. Guns situation that pertained for several years. So the fact that Tate is fired from Queensryche and the other members retained the name is indeed news - good news at that.

Yeah, that's what was news to me. I knew about the internal problems, Rising West, etc. But the fact that they're going forward as Queensryche and Geoff is indeed out is news to me.

Not surprised Tate doesn't get the name. He wasn't a founding member, although he's appeared on all their albums. I'd imagine there's a bunch of lawyers making money off how they divide the spoils because I assume their older stuff still generates some cash flow.

There's a shit-ton of singers that could easily do the old stuff, and maybe put some integrity back into that band.

There's also guitarists that could do the same.

I didn't see a link to this vid here, but this incident where he dissed the crowd was a factor:

Honestly I don't think he was pulling an Axl, it was just an attempt to motivate the crowd that sort of misfired IHMO.

And in GT's defense. what is with all the workday bookings of these bands of late? Every tour that I'm going to see this year is on a Thursday or a Sunday or some lame-ass workday. Sup with that?

Can't really blame him, that crowd did suck. Most metal crowds suck these days. Bands that can only draw 50 people in a dingy club in the USA draw tens of thousands in Europe.

Then let's all pack our bags and invade Europe. Fuck American Metal audiences. Most of them show up to get stoned or laid anyway and don't give a fuck about the band (which is why it's so hard to get them motivated).

"Yeah, I'm not here to scream "RAAARRR!" when the singer says to, I'm here to see how the guitarist plays that one solo in that one song cuz I think I'm doing it the wrong way."

Wrong reason to go to a show.
