Been hot as hell here for southeast Wisconsin. Grass has been brown for over three weeks. I don't remember any rain in almost a month. I was smokin' hot down at Summerfest. Usualy the lakefront is considerably cooler. Humidity is the killer here. Hey Mosh, you must have visited or played Summerfest a few times when you were up in Chicago.(?)

Just got in from a nice mid-afternoon workout in the ol' home gym: only 108 in there today, down five degrees from a couple of days ago.

          Reporting 108 here.
          Slight breeze.

Limiting the afternoon run to 8 miles.
          J/K o' course.

Garage has good A/C, and the 30+ year old unit for the house is working
          as it should.
We set it to 80 degrees and you'd be surprised how relatively cool that feels.
My neighbor insists on doing 72 degrees and has literally bought three A/C units in the
          last 8 years!
The big ones, not window units...that's what? 5K a pop minimum each time.

111 today... we keep ours at 78 pretty much all the time.
15 year old unit still going strong.

Sounds like your neighbor is buying crap units or one that is grossly undersized for the square footage of his house.

I replaced the original 2 ton unit on my house with a 5 ton unit and it doesn't skip a beat.

^^^ Ha! Shiny and new, eh? What brand of system do you have? SEER rating? Tonnage?

I'm running a new SEER 16 York 4 ton variable fan speed system myself. It is holding up pretty well.

                  I thought the same.
                  Too small.
                  But these units are HUGE.
Another thing that might be happening is nearly every "service call"

And they are falling for it every time?

I know they run the shit out of the unit.
On 24/7, even in the middle of the night.
Service call when they freeze it over during the day.

That's exactly what this is...nice! But I got the fan speed fixed on high. My wife and I tweaked the ducts to opitimize air flow via walkie talkies. The main duct in my foyer would blow Marilyn Monroe's dress over her head. Not now, because she's kinda dead. But I did try it wearing a similair dress. Woweeeeeeee..my balls.

I have power at least. Everyone here is acting like it's armeggedon. Any fuel stop that has power is running dry, and of course these redneck motherfuckers here want to fight about it. Of an estimated 2 million without power, 584k is without in WV. It's nutty 'round hyar, and gonna get worse. Governor has declared an emergency and the power company is out in force, but looks like 5-7 days (2-3) before normalcy ensues. You guys take care, I'll be back in a few days.

Power outage? I think people pretty much anywhere would fight for fuel if it was undermined how long it would take to get it again. Drive to another state and load your trunk up with gas but - 5-7 days without power I probably would be buying generators and ordering solar panels on Amazon. (and yes I think to myself, how would they get here? - its somewhat a joke)
I think I'll get a generator this month sometime. Its been on my list of things to buy for along time..

Its hot for MN. Not like we don't get weather like this in the summer from time to time, just not typically several days-weeks consistently in a row. 90-100 all week, mostly mid 90's. I hear ya Chicago but I can't imagine Vegas, Phoenix or Dallas etc. Gimme a pool will ya! (they're usually sold out)

For as many people who have AC in the tri state area - there are a surprising number who do not use their AC, especially in older houses/households - my father being one of them, but its cool in the basement.
He tends to not use the heat in the winter as well or at least sparingly. His net worth isn't lacking in the least and yet he still pinches every dime like it was Germany circa 1946, but that in part is how he got to the point he's at. Its the generation, - engrained behaviors of frugalness.

Me on the other hand, I like my comforts but I can deal with 78 indoor in summer and 68 in winter.

Hey Dave, is your cousin cute?

You lucky bastard. It hasn't even got that hot outside yet. Put the central heating on today for an hour.
