Your tag line, now THAT is a waste of time & a bother. It's nothing profound, nothing interesting. Who gives a shit. He took 3 takes and kept one. That's special why? It's the definition of not special: "Musician does several takes, keeps one". If that's sig worthy, to be slathered under your every utterance going on 600 times, Don's post must be like the engravings on the tablets coming down the mountain with Moses screaming, "YOU GUYS GOTTA CHECK THIS OUT!".
Well since you decided to put your two cents worth in on a matter that was neither general in statement nor directed at you, here's another two cents to rub together. What I have in my sig may not be of interest to you, but at the very least it's more interesting than anything said in the entire post that I commented on.

You quoted my post, darling. Furthermore, you jumped on Don for no reason, so don't act so perplexed when you take a shot to the vagina.

Here's my new sig- Let me know what you think:

"I had a bagel & cream cheese, a cup of coffee, and took a gargantuan dump in the bus bathroom. I realized I forgot to flush and hoped I would get a chance to do so as soon as the plane ride was over." -Randy Rhoads, March 19th, 1982

        none.

The term hair metal makes me cringe.

I like music, rock music more than anything and alot of the early 90s bands were good.

I always have hated the arguments about which is better. To me it seems like the record companies worked the more popular bands like ratt, motley crue and bon jovi to death. They were either on tour or writing an album which then put them back on tour. MTV made them all famous before maybe they were ready which made it more difficult for some of the bands to really improve on there abilities in front of the kinds of audiences they were playing. Maybe had they played smaller venues for a little while it might have helped there live performances and kept some perspective.

anyway, all those bands ended up overworked and tired out. Most had drug and alcohol problems which made it even more difficult to hang in there and fight off the changing audience and lack of mtv respect.

Overnight mtv turned there back on most of these acts that made the station so popular, they decided to tap into the new LA, seattle and as it turns out that music scene was weak and didnt have the lifespan the LA guys did.

I love pearl jam and think aic is great. Alot of the other bands I never really got. I always get a kick out of how most people just thought of the 80s rock scene as a joke and then thought the 90s seattle scene was so important and needed respect. They were playing the same arenas, staying in the same hotels, using the same drugs.

They burned out fast and the quality was limited to the first run of bands, nirvana, pearl jam, aic, stp.....after that it was just bad and they had no staying power.

Most of the 80s acts are out on the road again. All of those 90s one hit wonders and alternative bands minus a few have packed it in.

I read a van halen book and it talked about one night in 91 eddie showed up to nirvana playing the la forum and went backstage to talk to the guys to tell them he liked the band and wanted to play with them and kurt cobain told him they didnt have any guitars for him to play and to get out.

then in 96 van halen shot videos in the netherlands, I forget which songs but it was stuff off of balance and mtv told them they didnt want the videos and were not playing van halen anymore....sad. They turned there back on what made there network. THen the seattle scene fizzled out overnight essentially and the acts later on in the 90s were just awful and mtv just stopped playing music.

sorry for the rant, but no matter the makeup or whatever but i never thought oh its grunge time I hate all the la bands etc etc... Never made sense to me.

Wait a second, who are you, Derek Acorah? When did he say that?
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

            I nearly broke her back

Great! So far, we are on page 3 and have come up with 2 songs: Don't Treat Me Bad and Unskinny Bop. Discuss!

You just don't know when to shut your face? You put your foot in your mouth, yet you keep digging your hole deeper and deeper. Give it a rest dork.

I felt unqualified to answer because I never got into the grunge thing....

BUT, if we want to talk about 'hair metal' songs that really dug the graveyard....

Never let you go ~ Steelheart, would be near the top of my list!

steel heart...slaughter...tuff...firehouse - ugh. pick any ONE song by any of these bands and it is enough to make one remember what was so "wrong" with hair metal.

regarding grunge...that shit was even worse. in my mind, all nirvana ever was is a band that ripped off boston and celtic frost rather poorly. soundgarden was just a cross between sabbath and zeppelin. pearl jam was/is just a classic rock band. AIC was probably the most original, but i still consider them more metal than punk - and most of the grunge bands claimed to be punk...fuckers like the melvins, mudhoney and the screaming trees (which again, weren't that punk to me...)

it all sucked to me - hair metal and grunge. i was still exploring the NWOBHM, loving thrash, and GREATLY enjoying those european bands that had the speed of metallica with the melodious nature of iron maiden...blind guardian, gamma ray, etc. mercyful fate was busy in the 90s - that made me happy. the scandinavian black metal scene was beginning...

there WAS other shit out there besides grunge and hair metal - you just had to know where to look.
                        GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

                        and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

                          Wow - awesome thread...

I might be xenophobe's brother from another mother - you must have passed one back & forth outside Ruthie's with me, Cliff & T. Rage back in the day!

And yes - Pantera was some bizarre circus of crap that I never understood - why they get mentioned in the same breath as other metal greats I'll never know. All the solos seemed to be in the key of Slayer...see: Zakk Wylde...

As for grunge, I was ok with the 1st Soundgarden album (yes - album!), but the rest was crap...

GBH, Discharge, Exploited, DRI - all good stuff!

And to get back on track, it would have to be She's Only 17 for me as the pinnacle of sh*t coming out of L.A. at the time...
Crime doesn't pay. Neither does lutherie...

Oh, and Soundgarden sucks too. The dude can sing his ass off but other than Outshined their music sucks donkey balls. Half the shit he played on guitar sounded like someone was pulling a cat's tail.
