I just want to kick all those crybaby idiots in the teeth with steel toed workboots. I think I can relate better to most of the hip hop out there (not rap) allthough I cant stand the music and the autotune, etc. At least that music is about enjoying life and having fun. I just hate how it sounds.

You could be on to something there with the rap observation. Maybe poor urban kids have enough IRL shit to worry about without making their leisure time listening to music depressing too.

Never was nudged into grunge. There were exceptions to the rule. Soundgarden was blessed with an amazing vocalist inspite of the genre they were in. But grunge... I hated everything about the heroin nod bullshit.

          You lucky fucks!

So all you had to endure was Grunge?
Holy hell, you should have seen the explosion of Rave/House over here

          But I digress

I liked some of Poison's stuff to a limited degree. But yeah, "Unskinny Bop" freakin sucked.

I'm 39 and still don't understand the term hair metal. I don't know what was "metal" about any of those hair bands. Hard rock, yes. Metal, no!

                  This ^

The hair metal bubble burst, it was heavily promoted by every record label and your shit better have a few ballads on it too! I'm not a fan of putting labels onto music, I like stuff from almost every genre.... Good is good, and shit is shit - You can polish a turd, but than it's just a shiny piece of shit.

There were some incredible talents to come from the ashes of 80's ....

Steve Morse for example, absolutely avoided the 'hair metal' thing but an example of incindiary guitar playing!!!!

What is this "grunge" you speak of? Does it respond to antibiotics?

All you guys are weak that jumped into the grunge band wagon.

Nothing kept me from getting into that.

To some extent, but things were just changing anyway. Hair metal died out here because thrash took over, then Jim Nady fucked the whole Bay Area by closing the two largest venues and moved it to Florida, then the brutal death metal scene took over from there...

                          +1

Nothing made me jump off the hair metal bandwagon either. It didn't cease to kick ass - it never kicked ass in the first place.

Big difference between hair metal and grunge singers? Hair singers were high pitched whiny bitches who sang about all the pussy they wanted you to believe they were getting while wearing more makeup and lace than your girlfriend. Grunge singers whined at their shoes about how awful their lives were because middle class mummy & daddy wouldn't update their Playstations until they got an afterschool job. And then when Eddie Vedder came along, they all locked their jaws while they did it. Try it - jut your jaw & lock it in place - instant Pearl Jam/Creed/Lifehouse/whatevs

Hair metal was a trend. Grunge was a trend. Any band that is only about the trend probably sucks. Warrant, Firehouse, Nirvana, etc.

Warrant sucked then. The music still sucks. Nirvana sucked then. The music sucks now.

Whereas Pearl Jam and AIC created music that is still worthy today because they were not bound by the trend that was grunge.

Same goes for bands like Ratt or Tesla that were not bound by hair metal - Ratt just had a shitty singer with nearly the gayest of all haircuts in the 80's.

Guns and Roses seemed like they would be a good alternative to both hair metal and grunge. But then they never released another good album after Appetite.

That's funny. My oldest son was listening to some Sabbath in the car with me one day and I was explaining to him that they pretty much invented metal. He says "it's definitely great stuff but that's not metal". LOL. I think this was on our way to see Shadow's Fall and Lamb of God.
