Fucking hell, I've been out drinking with them! (And I'm putting on "City Baby Attacked By Rats" now to listen to my theme song "Bell-End Bop")

Hair Metal was killed off by The Black Album, in particular James Hetfield's perm, it was so embarrassing that we all wanted Courtney Love to kill us too.
(Oh, and Lars Ulrich's spandex trousers. I distinctly recall Mr Hetfield stating, whilst onstage at Donington, 6 years previously, that they weren't about "eye-liner and spandex and all that shit". How wrong that turned out eh?)

I'd rather listen to (or watch) a load of middle-aged poofters mincing about in make-up singing about pussy than some scruffy cunts who can't play guitar solos and look like they need a good kicking (like students).
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

              I nearly broke her back

I think Warrant put the final fork in the 80's hair band era for me.....they were just so....icky.

AND....Mr. Smacker above...please explain 'poofters' the rest of us that don't speak the queen's engrish.

                What's a POOFTER??

Whereas Pearl Jam and AIC created music that is still worthy today because they were not bound by the trend that was grunge.

Same goes for bands like Ratt or Tesla that were not bound by hair metal - Ratt just had a shitty singer with nearly the gayest of all haircuts in the 80's.

Guns and Roses seemed like they would be a good alternative to both hair metal and grunge. But then they never released another good album after Appetite.
That's great! I've got to ask: so who had gayer hair than Pearcy?

No worse than alot of the other comments seen in this forum. And yes, 8 lines of the exact same fucking thing IS a waste and a bother. If that hurts your feelings, maybe you could have stopped right after saying you dislike Pearl Jam, or maybe even write something more constructive with those 8 lines next time.

I love the band and album to death, but there are some pretty shocking 'dos in the Rage For Order cover shots!

                        Also George Lynch's Limahl mullet.

All of them. Guess I am too young to understand the whole hair metal thing.

I am old enough, and am proud of that. The eighties, in retrospect, was a good time in music. At the time though, I remember thinking especially in the early eighties, thinking this is a messed up time. So many different directions, and so much weirdness going on. Don't get me wrong though. Some was cool and cutting edge. I remember hearing all the time that the seventies were soooo much better from my older brother and then that the sixties were sooo much better from my even older brother. Well the eighties started turning in 82 and never looked back for me. As for the so called "Hair Metal" I never called them that, and actually never understood that term. Those bands were rock and nothing more, and definitely not metal. Some of them were good and some were not. Even some that were bad had some decent songs. I remember always referring to them as "poodle rockers", and remember the definition. Anyone that spent more time on their hair than their music...Poodle Rockers!

Maybe you can mind your own business, junior, and not play posting police. Did you continue to read his post after the first line? After the first 3 words? Really?

Your tag line, now THAT is a waste of time & a bother. It's nothing profound, nothing interesting. Who gives a shit. He took 3 takes and kept one. That's special why? It's the definition of not special: "Musician does several takes, keeps one". If that's sig worthy, to be slathered under your every utterance going on 600 times, Don's post must be like the engravings on the tablets coming down the mountain with Moses screaming, "YOU GUYS GOTTA CHECK THIS OUT!".

For me, it was really just the first round of bands that I got into. I like Motley Crue and Ratt. They had an edge. I love Lynch, though Dokken always was cheesy as a band. I was more of a NWOBHM guy before and even during that time, and really went back to explore the classic 70's rock when hair metal was in full force.

I agree that Guns and Roses put the first nail in the coffin.* I think the explosion of Metallica's Black Album was the final nail, as much (if not more) than Nirvana. They were the same year. It seemed that "real" metal was much more than thing all of a sudden.

                                * There are some straight forward rock bands that get lumped in with hair metal that I really enjoy to this day too, like Tesla.
