I've got bubinga veneer on the headstock now.. You can kinda see it here..

it's about 1/24" thickness or so. Maybe less. Reverse headstock. Definitely an option.

The only issue that you will run into doing that type of wood is that it will not stand out much....especially on the darker parts of the grain. Maple is the ideal wood due to its much lighter color. -Lou

Could you burn it down through to the maple? Just a thought..

That wouldn't work out well. It would take forever for one......then it would singe-burn the outline on the bubinga due to the number of passes and heat.....and it would make the maple burn darker, therefor not standing out. Ideally, you could have had the logo cut out of the laminate before you glued it on and then filled it with a table top style resin.

Ideally, you want to have raw, fine sanded maple and do it in about 2-3 passes.-Lou

Hey Lou, don't know where you might be at but I spent the day down by the river for the Seafood Festival. It's over, but I'd recommend you visit Newport on the Levee. Had a good time there today. If that's too far, good food can be found in Union Center. Just head North on I75 from GE about 5 miles, first exit past I275. There's a GC and a Sam Ash in that same 5 mile circle from GE. Also in that range is Target World. Pop in, check out some guns, rent a loaner and pop off a few rounds to kill some time. All of this is just to the north of GE.
