Dude give up the Cigs, I quit 2 years ago and it was a little tough for the first week or two. You'll feel better and you'll get an accurate gauge on your health. If you can quit all the other shit, you can kick smokes. I'm the same age as you and my lungs are fucked, I have pretty stout emphysema and some days it feels like I'm dying by a slow suffocation. Cigs will fuckin kill you and if you've survived this long, there's more to be done.

I do have mild COPD which mildly affects me maybe 2-3 times a month, but I can ride my bike and keep a decent cadence for about 2-3 miles at a time before I have to pedal/coast/pedal/coast for a few miles before I can resume cadence. I used to be able to ride 50-60 miles effortlessly. Right now I have no problem with 10+ miles on flatland, but anything more than a very mild grade puts my heart rate through the roof.

Personally? I wouldn’t worry about the weight. If you gain 10-15 pounds so fukin be it. At least you’re not putting chemicals into your lungs that you KNOW are slowly killing you. I would try and walk if nothing more. Walk and drink lots of water. I fukin HATED water. Now, it’s one of my only 3 drink. Water, Coffee or beer. That’s it. Stay busy as you can, drink lots of water. It CAN be done, as lots of us saying. Accept its going to suck ass for a while. But then you are going to feel great and be pissed at yourself for not doing it sooner !!-Now....shut up n play yer guitar

Yeah, I know body mass is a bit of a fallacy. It's been proven that some people are just naturally bigger than others. I'm not one of them. When I was in the army I was about 140 lbs, could run 10 miles and I was very healthy. I smoked back then too. lolLast edited by xenophobe; 08-28-2012, 09:02 AM.The 2nd Amendment: America's Original Homeland Defense.

Just losing 20lbs was noticeable. My stamina is better and I can ride longer, faster and pedal harder. I was 225, my target is 165. I've been hovering at 189 for about a week now. I'm half way there. I'm still at great risk for having a heart attack. Once I'm in the 165-175 region, I'll still be 15-20lbs overweight.

I guess my thought process is: Don't wait for a reason to quit (such as losing weight, or after my next court date, or after vacation) Just fukin quit. Get the pain and process over with.
Fuk, guys, for what its worth if I can do it then honestly ANYONE can. I'm no different then alot of you. I've had all problems, all the addictions, all the bullshit in my life.
Now, I have to say, things are pretty fukin good. shredin, workin, watchin my kids grow. I'm healthy !!!! Of course I don't owe that ALL to quiting smoking but it was a big fukin step man.-Now....shut up n play yer guitar

I feel about 24 and I'm 48. I eat well and exercise. I can easily run 3.5 miles all breathing through the nose. Age is a state of mind, if you keep the body healthy the mind wont matter
I was a 2 1/2 a day smoker when I quit at age 30. I went cold turkey, it was tough but every day got a little easier and easier. Try the patch or the gum, they may help but in all honesty it is all mental. I'm one of those guys that who challenges myself and hate losing Accept the challenge and you ma impress yourself
Aside from health your sense of smell and taste will return.Last edited by Shawn Lutz; 08-28-2012, 09:41 AM.shawnlutz.com

Well, we all know what happens when you don't lose the weight. You don't quit. Quiting smoking is something you can do NOW and hopefully during that process you will be staying busy anyways. I only gained about 10LBS which I have since lost. The 2nd Amendment: America's Original Homeland Defense.

morning hobble, but when i think about it, fuck coffee too, that stuff tears the lining in your stomach apart. i never drank that crap
until i got clean. and i assault it with tons of sugar and milk, cuz let's face it, coffee does not taste good, i don't care if you're at starbucks or 7-11, in truth it tastes like sour milk and ass. it's strictly for wake up, and of course you have a ton of smokes during and after. Not helping the situation since 1965!
