Ok, I'll play! Here's my Colt LE6920 M4 with Magpul MOE furniture. Congrats on the PSA Straycat! They get solid reviews and I looked at them when I was shopping. Mine will have an Aimpoint PRO on it around Christmastime. Wife has dibs on buying me one for Christmas. For the left winger who doesn't understand why I need my M4, I look at it as my God given instrument to put food on the table, protect family, home and country. You'll have to figure it out for yourself...

Before MOE hardware picture pointing out the M4 Carbine rollmark too...

What do you guys think of the Sig Sauer M400 with Prismatic Scope (I'm typing this in from the WalMart ad LOL!). $897 - think it's a good deal? 5.56 NATO / .223 caliber, 30 round mag. They have the Colt M4 for $1,097, no scope and only 20 round mag. The cheap one is the DPMS for $597, 30 round mag.

Don't know much about those or the scope but Sig makes quality firearms.
        DPMS are decent guns too.
A friend has a DPMS he is wanting to sell and has had no offers yet and wants a combo guitar amp and a 2 humbucker guitar so there may be a trade who knows LOL
The way things are going having a gun or two around isn't a bad idea really.
Wal Mart has 5.56 in a 420 round ammo can for $156.00 which is a decent deal.

Since you're from the UK, I understand your confusion. The USA is not like Western Europe or the United Kingdom. We were founded with four power checks, three being the the various branches of government (legislative, judicial, and executive). The fourth power check is the people. The idea being that no one entity gets too powerful or corrupt without the others cancelling it out. Yes, our gun rights permit us to hunt, and permit us to defend ourselves from criminals, but they serve a third function as well. Gun rights protect us from the police and military, when they become the criminals. That's the part most people seem to forget.

I'm not a right-wing gun nut conservative, nor would I ever want to kill someone.. that would be fucking terrible. However most of the anti-gun, or even anti-assault weapons supporters I doubt have ever experienced a real need to defend themselves. I experienced one of, if not the greatest natural disasters my country has ever experienced. I witnessed society breakdown right before my eyes. There was no government, there was no law, no guarantee of safety. "Martial Law" was declared, which basically equates to: "You're on your own." (The same government which btw, arrives in the third world the day after a tsunami or some such occurs.)

People were getting robbed, shot, stabbed, you name it. Only the armed were secure. A lot of Americans don't want the government to step in and take care of them, the government already fucks up enough without stepping into our lives.

My point is, I would just like for everyone to consider the facts before thinking of the US as a "bunch of crazy gun nuts".

EDIT: That was kind of a lie. I would add an M203 to it.

Actually if I owned an M203, that statement isn't a lie because I would put it on an Colt M16A4 build.

US political system is copied from Western Europe. There's nothing new in it. Mostly taken from Montesquieu and the like but everyone in essence are copying the Dutch who had a very modern nation state before any other place. They also formed small grouped militias as they had conflict with Spain/Habsburgs, look at the Dutch paintings from that era, dudes with guns, the most famous is Rembrandt's "The Night Watch". When the situation got better, gradually they put the guns away and started collecting paintings or something else which people with good taste do.
In my constitution the very first point states that "the supreme power of state is vested in the people" yet no one carries guns even though we are allowed to do so.
Average joe fighting against military in his suburban house is a wild fantasy. They will kill you down. By the way with the extreme military fetishism in US where no one dares to say anything negative about soldiers who are well trained to shoot a hole in your head if you think they become the enemy, I'm not sure how many even dare to do something against them, I expect collaboration.
In case of guerilla warfare, have you ever heard of an guerilla group in the history who doesn't have weapons? So if you are worried that you have to fight against military then no need to worry, weapons are always available, more than drinking water and bread are.

In reality when the proletariat from Europe started to immigrate to americas, a lot of them were of course criminals so people started getting guns because the crime rates were very high, very low population density on big land of course helped lawlessness. Another reason was that the Americans were in the way, European immigrants had to shoot them down to get their land.

When it comes to modern times then it's mostly a hobby. There are different reasons. One of them is that men with small penises and who perform badly are more likely into weapons. Some see it as a result of proletarian "culture" where people lack taste. Many different theories out there.

Then there's Endy..my man. A plethora of wonderment. With balls of titanium alloy-like substance. Which I tried to smoke..I got nuthin'.

Remember in this urban jungle of jungles.. I am the law, and the law won. Because I didn't not fight crime with silly whatnots and bullet proof vests. I conquered the concrete jungle shirtless, with sword and shield...and two mag-lites..because I broke one. I brought home my kill for the wife to cook. One thanksgiving my kin feasted upon 54lbs of corn fed ghetto ass. We had a whole cheek left over. I ate ass cheek for a week and a half, until ass cheek was coming out my fuggin' ears.

Now I just buy a butterball.

You seem to know your history.

Why are you leaving out all of the occurrences in recent history where disarming the populace ended up with genocide? And I'm talking about recent history, our or our parent's lifetimes...

Yeah, that seems good, but I picked up 1,000 rounds at .22 per round at Buds of 7.62 stuff.

I also stick with 9mm because WalMart has that for .24 per round.

If I decide to go AR 15 my older son will need to convince me. Until then I think I'll stick with the AK 47. I love the Military Channel's "Top Ten" show. When they got to the AK (#1), the guy said if he was dropped on an alien planet, is gun of choice would be the AK 47. Good enough for me LOL!

Although there's a lot I disagree with that statement, you're talking about the right carry a weapon, concealed or otherwise. I think the OP was asking specifically about assault rifles being sold to civilians. For the record, I support the right to self-armament, to protect home and family when need be, but allowing people to buy military grade assault rifles is a little too much.
I feel festive all year round. Deal with it.

But, we don't own a "military grade" assault rifle. There is no select fire, no full auto. That's what I don't get, people who think it's a military equivalent rifle when it is clearly not. Just because it looks like it, doesn't mean it is. Does anyone out there other than me realize how expensive NFA firearms are, and why they aren't commonplace? It takes a tremendous amount of coin to own something that is full auto or considered an NFA weapon. That's why the average joe like me or anyone else doesn't own one.
