This style of bad boy would be more my speed if I lived somewhere that would allow me to own it. Not for defense because unless you live with a lot of open space you are outside it's design parameters. More for personal skill/challenge.

Ok, since I had a hand in sidetracking this thread, can I add this one? I know it's not a black rifle, but it's another one of mine that's fun to shoot. It's one of the newer ones with the heavy cold hammer forged barrel. This one's surprisingly accurate at 100 yards. I shoot two and a half inch 20 round groups with it at 100 yards. Of course, I love the reliability of it's Garand style action too!

Like that one too no hijack here.LOL
Taking mine out for a shake down test tomorrow.
My GF wants to take her 38 S&W and have a go at it too.
The AR cleaned up nicely and is ready to go.
Digging thru all my gun stuff I found my 22 conversion AR bolt kit.
Need to find some mags or inserts for the reg mags.Last edited by straycat; 09-28-2012, 11:45 PM.Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I have a Mauser that shoots 6.5mm x 55 catridges. They are a little hard to come by ($16.95 for 20 rounds at the gun show), but it's fun to shoot. This gun had been "sporterized", meaning it looks more like a hunting gun than a WW1 gun. It has a peep hole sight. I don't know much more about it - was my dad's gun. He was a good marksman in the Army, getting perfect scores. Still bugs me that he never took me shooting. I'm taking my son's to the range tomorrow. Maybe I can get the wife and daughter to go too.

Hey Straycat, I'd be interested to know the cartridge specs you use and how it shoots. Sounds like a day of fun. Razor, thats good shooting with that Ruger. My buddies isn't that good, although it is extremely reliable . Thats why its in his pickup truck gun rack all the time in Wyoming.

They're fun, and I would rather have a conversion than a dedicated .22lr upper. But the dedicated upper will be far more accurate. I can't really say if it's better for reliability, but it's probably a lot easier to get parts and mags for a dedicated upper.
I dunno, this should be discussed to death on more than a few different forums. The 2nd Amendment: America's Original Homeland Defense.

Help out a gun-buying noob. I was in the USMCR for 6 years and know the M16 very well. There are multiple civilian versions of it, but which is closest to the military specs (I don't mean full auto, but dimensions, caliber, barrel, etc.)?
Also, I've always wanted an H&K 91. Since the assault weapons ban wasn't renewed, does that mean you can buy them again now? They aren't made anymore, so what's the best way to find one? Craigslist and ebay don't allow listing guns for sale.Unleash the fury.....Texas style!

I ran some 223 thru it today at the indoor range and it ran great no problems at all.
Can't wait to run some 5.56 thru it.5.56 is just a bit hotter than 223 not by much tho'.
Mags fed great I had some with the brown followers and some with the green all fed just fine.
Nice group at 25 yards.
Every shot was in the black or orange on the human shaped target..
Get only better as it get broken in.Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Some really good threads here from some guys who really know their shit! A couple of the guys who rely on them daily and take a lot of stock in their advice is "jonconsiglio" and "Munch520". You can do a search on the 1911 "Rifles and Shotguns" section and find tons of info on AR's. Most of the guys on there are very cool and laid back. M249's are fun though, if you can haul them!
As long as you maintained a M16, it was fine. I have never had an FN M4, but I guess you're saying they were crap. M16+M203 is ridiculous firepower. If you don't think 5.56 would do, a few HEDP's downrange should take care of it.The 2nd Amendment: America's Original Homeland Defense.
