  • Vid of my band, get in and critique !

So we're doing a battle of the bands type of contest and we won the first round.
Now next round will be harder and I'm looking for tips to help us improve our game.
We're doing heavy/power/prog metal with clean vocals.

So here's a one song excerpt from the first round gig.

Make sure you watch it in HD and skip the first 20 seconds.
I know it's not perfect and that's the whole point of this ... so help us identify what would be the easiest / most rewarding things to work on first !
And of course you can "facebook like" the vid if you think it's cool enough ...

    Thanks in advance.

Singer needs to work on projection/power. It sounds like he's talking casually in key. Snare drum sounded wicked, but wasn't sitting in the mix well. Outside of that it sounded good. I was surprised to hear the lyrics in English for some reason!

I second what Hellbat said regarding the singer. But cool stuff and well played too.

That's a really horrible mix, the vocals are too loud... it's hard to say what needs to be done since I can't hear it as it should be. If you separate the vocals as much as they did, it's gonna sound a lot worse. So I can't say your vocalist is off key, because it was hard for me to hear the bass and the drums sounded flat.

Bad mix IMO and thats not your fault. The sound man isolated the vocals a bit too much.
The singer needs to put more heart into it.JMO.He might have had trouble hearing the monitor too so I'm not sure.
You guys sound great live I bet.

Thanks for the comments so far!

The recorded mix is indeed horrible.
I hope it was better in the venue ... but I somehow doubt it.
IMO, the lead guitar player was too loud too ... we can barely hear the other guitarist.
And our drummer was 5 to 10 bpm too fast which made the song harder to play ...

Anyway if you focus on the visual side of it, anything to add?
