The gas prices here in So Cal have gone up 30 cents a gallon in two days. The cheapest I could find coming home was $4.69 and the most expensive was $5.49 for regular and $5.91 for premium. The news is we will be at $6.50-$7.00 a gallon in a week or two. Apparently two of the four refineries still making the special California summer blend gas have gone off line for technical issues. The gas that is being produced and used in other states cannot be used in California due to EPA regulations. The news also reported that the gas lines of the 70's may return. Remember the odd & even days?

In OC, the average is up over 50 cents in the last 3 days. I'm a member of gasbuddy.com so I received advanced notice about this and was able to fill up (at $ 3.95 per g) on Saturday. This huge hike does suck, but it is only temporary.
National average price of gas predicted to be $2.95/gal on Christmas Day; cheapest Christmas at the pump in 4 years For those hitting the road ahead of Christmas or getting last minute gifts, Santa has delivered. Motorists will likely see a national average price of gas of $2.95 per gallon on Christmas, the lowest we’ve […]"Quiet, numbskulls, I'm broadcasting!" -Moe Howard, "Micro-Phonies" (1945)

What's going on there?
I remember a few years ago the state increased gas taxes just because they didn't like SUV's and wanted to force people to drive econo-boxes. Is it another case of that?
I know here in Texas last year several county commissioners tried to raise gas taxes because more people are driving econo-boxes, reducing gas tax income for counties and the state. It was quickly shot down thankfully.

The thing your talking about is a logger. The auto insurance industry would like see the installed in cars as standard equipment. The record how you drive, where you drive and when you drive. They will then base your rate on the information it has gathered. I think progressive already offers this as a discount. Ya right!

But basically, our recent heat wave caused several outages in a few refineries here in California, affecting supply. Also, "summer blend" gas is required to be sold here until the end of October. Here's another article explaining things:

I like the way they try to spin spying on your every move and action behind the wheel as a happy positive thing when in fact it's just another way for them to not only violate your privacy but to also find ways to squeeze more profits out of you with the police-state argument of "if you don't have anything to hide then why would you object?"
It's so Orwellian it's sickening.
