PLC programmer, plant electrician, automated systems in general. I've been doing mechanical drafting/ CAD lately...

I say we go authentic in construction of guillotines, reinvigorate some old crafts, like carpenter, blacksmith and ropemaking
All the more fun when the cast iron blade has been dulled so much, it won't go through at the first drop
and it can be an honest homemade product, using native materials and labour

Oh, and sorry, no goggles, the executioner will also be authenticly wearing one of those cool black hoods
(You wouldn't happen to enjoy beheading by axe for some variety once in a while?)

And there will be less waste as well, rotten eggs and tomatoes won't needlessly go into a trashcan, they can be brought by the public
who can throw them at the convicted waiting for his death in the scaffold

The whole "wow awesome you're perfect now get the fuck out!" routine is so you'll under-bid the job. Offer to do the advertised job for less than it should be paying and you'll get it.

Hmmm, let's see, $40+K a year to work in a factory on an assembly line or $40+K a year to work a decent job that actually has career potential? Hmmm.


Forget what you spent on your education. You bought a product/service, just like coffee and toilet paper. You don't get that money back. Those skills are required by your job (or at least the documentation of such skills). It's not guaranteed that you'll get back what you paid. Did that coffee and bagel turd you pinched also come with the money for said coffee and bagel? No, it didn't. You bought your product (education), you got what you paid for. It doesn't include a rebate.

However, I see no legitimate reason for "those at the top" to consider "we didn't make as much profit as we expected" the same as "we lost money". I also don't see a legitimate reason for "those at the top" to not take a voluntary cut in pay to keep their own business afloat and keep the people employed who actually provide their product/service to the market.

I mean, if there's no customers (i.e. the people who work those jobs you're so busy cutting to protect your personal top-level incomes), there's no sales. I mean, fucking durr.

But what I really like are the people who think it's like magic, where just because someone who doesn't actually do the work says something "MUST" be done, it gets done in a puff of smoke by magical elves or some shit.

Go self employed, nothing keeps you on your toes and in touch with the market like being self employed, sure you can take a late start some days, but if there is no work you don't eat and being real competitive, value for money, and the word of mouth and happy customers is everything. The benefits are endless, this morning I awoke to find a tick on my balls.

I gotta add that having spent some time in the states, I was shocked by how the people towed the Union party line and how inefficient workers were. Obviously these were just my observations from my field and are not a blanket whitewash. But I mean you guys are like Germany or something, all glitz and a prestigious, uber efficent working image...but you get there and it's the complete opposite. I mean what a UK road crew could do in one night on a motorway, would take a German road crew of twice as many workers two months to complete and in the USA, it probably wouldn't even happen as the local funding isn't available. If it did go ahead, it would drag on for weeks with the white gangers giving the black machine operators directions, whilst no one even got their arse off a machine all day and spent all day puzzling how to move some half a tonne of Type 1 road base that was pushed half under some residents fence.

And what's with thos long handled shovels? Totally useless, if a machine won't do it, most of the time it doesn't get done in the USA, you have machines for everything, yet they are completely inefficiently designed as well. You guys don't even have wide mouth square shovels FFS, or all steel digging forks. How do you dig a footing when you can't get even a micro digger in? With a long handled shovel....it makes me laugh it's so backwards.

I saw how landscaping crews operated and sincerely...what a fecking joke. They wouldn't last two seconds in the UK.

The USA and Germany are so alike in so many ways, I mean you are leaders of the field in so many respects in so many fields, yet on the whole everything is still done very inefficiently. Mind you we have a touch of that too I guess. BUt more often it is buracracy and red tape that limits us over here.

IN my opinion, you'd be better off working less hours, more efficiently.

Even your vehicles are completely inefficient. My Ford Transit tipper can carry more cubic meterage than your F350 dumpers and it does 33 (UK gallon) mpg and only has 70hp and a gross weight of 3.5 Tonne and can carry 1.6 metric tonne as it's monocoque sheet metal, rather than a heavy towing chassis.

From what I saw of the USA, there was a definite 'If it's good enough for the moment, it'll do' attitude everywhere. Who cares about tommorrow. It wouldn't cut it in the UK. Competition is just too fierce. You wouldn't get the work and you wouldn't eat.

But not everything is like this, I mean you do have Mitch at KNE Guitars and nail guns eh.
