The guy/girl at the counter at Food Lion can never understand what the fuck I'm on about anyway, nor the geezer from the tax free store over the city limits. When they finally do understand the accent, it's like 'This one? This one?.....This one?.....emmm....This one? '
'Oh For Fucks sake, just give me some fucking cigarettes'
'Em, Security to cashier number 5'
Any rate, it's a poor man's tax; cigarettes, they harp on about how they want everyone to quit, but I know it's just reverse psychology. An extra $4000 of taxes a year, paid by the people who can least afford it, whilst the rich who have milked our sweat blood and tears, stay happily in tax exile. THink about it that way. You'd be a mug to smoke. It is highly enjoyable though. You can't really be jealous of something you can't fathom.

That checkout counter scenario sounds reminiscent of my job dealing with asshats at Sky. Its a task getting them to give the info you need, but all they're concerned about is dumping the call on you. Thick fucking bastards. But if you put them back in their place, you get patronised in a disciplinary meeting by a bunch of hypocrites.Fuck ebay, fuck paypal

I'm getting close to an attempt at quitting. My supervisor quit the coffin nails 2 weeks ago & there's no smoking on site at work, so I don't smoke much during the day now.
The problem is I always look for excuses not to quit......'I still enjoy it', 'something bad will happen & make me start again' or 'fuck the anti-smoking nazis, it's my life & it's legal, i'm gonna rebel & keep smoking....." Here in Oz, we get treated like a plague.
I am getting sick of being an outcast & the money can be better spent (or saved). Not to mention I have 2 young boys that I need to be around for, I guess they should be all the motivation I need, right?

I hate the way Oz has gone these days. Liberal 'Do what you like, you are all part of the Australian Club...AS LONG AS YOU DO IT EXACTLY LIKE THIS AND NO YOU ABSOLUTELY CANNOT DO THAT fascist nancies with Victorian, sanitised, surburban, banal socialist values and stupid isolationist, arabic business pride in charge, even though trade with Japan has gone tits up. Still, at least you can take everybodies nuclear waste and mine your resources for the chinese whilst they last. That has to be worth something. Get rid of that bloody stupid women in charge though. FFS. Goes against the grain of everything I ever knew about Australia and both my folks are Australian. The only last bastians were the north west when I was there or going living in the Aboriginal communities, if you can survive em. Ain't nothing like drinking Port out of an Emu Export can whilst handlining. How much is the tax on cigarettes in NSW now anyway? I was told it was getting on $17 AU dollars a pack?
I think it is getting to be treated like leprosy in North East and west coast America too. Yeah, America is going the same way.
At least the Germans and the Chinese still smoke like troopers eh and a fifth of us lot do and all. Could get a contract there? NOt here though, we have too many bloody immigrants already. Bloody foreigners, think I need a fag to calm me down now.Last edited by ginsambo; 01-15-2013, 04:21 PM.You can't really be jealous of something you can't fathom.

There hitting us with yet another price hike. a pack of 30's should pass the $20 mark soon. Is there a dearer way to kill yourself? I think not.
Great for tourism......'Come to Australia, poison yourself, we'll treat you like roadkill & rape your bank balance for the privilege'.

Dudes, I NEVER thought I would be able to quit. Like, I just figured it would kill me and at one time, I even accepted that. After I had a few kids, I knew I had to try. It took me about 7 tries but I FINALLY did it. Do I miss it? Sure, there are times I miss it, but over all I feel MUCH better physically and mentally. Shit, now I'm even running 10-12K a week. I feel great and it was well worth the pain. And there will be fukin pain. I made the nicotine gum work for me. I of course got addicted to that but really? I didn’t care. I wasn’t smoking and that’s all that mattered to me. I was on the gum for almost 6 months, then kicked it. It was a bit painful, but nothing like quitting the smokes. Honestly, I am living proof that even a hardcore smoker can quit. It’s not fukin easy but it can be done. Don’t beat yourselves up over it if you slip and fall off the wagon. Keep trying, and you WILL do it….good luck to anyone trying…..Oh, and I smoked for about 25 years....-Now....shut up n play yer guitar

Not quitting will suck more
After watching my old man die from lung cancer I got hypnotized (and it actually worked).
I smoked for about 20 years and I've been smoke free for 16 years now.
hang in there , the secret to this (IMO) is you have to really want to quit.
I "tried" several times before I was successful, but the previous times I didn't really want to quit.
the last time I did and I made it.If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

Quit cold turkey. Tried the patches, the gum, nothing helped. All that got me through was knowing each day was a "notch on the belt" so to speak. Every day is a small victory in a weekly battle in an ongoing war. I think the hardest part is realizing that you're on your own and nobody gives a shit. You'll get the obligatory congratulations and then sent off on your merry way to suffer. And honestly dude, if you don't wear a watch, start now. It'll help loads when you get a "nic-fit" you think is lasting for hours but in reality only lasts a few minutes.I like EL34s.

I quit on Oct 1st 2002 cold turkey. I attacked the problem the scientific way. Cigarette smoking releases a harmone called Dopamine or the pleasure harmone. Other activities that release dopamine - sex, good food & exercise...to name a few. Since I was not dating anyone at the time I resorted to food and exercise. I started choosing good cuisines, did not feel bad about eating a whole candy bar from the vending machine, went running, etc.
For a week, my body ached and all day I had headaches. But after about 15 days or so, I did not have the craving anymore. Patches and gums did not work before that. cold turkey or nothing! Good luck!Sam

All of my father's five brothers smoke, and they are all in their 70's and 80's.
My grandmother on my father's side smoked until the day she died of old age at 94.
I feel confident in my belief that I am genetically disposed to NOT get lung cancer, although I smoke a pack every three days.Until you get weaned off the boobie, you are going to have to do what the wife wants too. -Rsmacker
