    Thanks.
No rush on them for right now.
I have plenty of GI's that work fine.
I'm hunting down some 30 round mags for my VZ 58 those can be hard to find.
    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Added a Vortex strike fire red dot today. They get rave reviews for a mid priced red dot.
Came with a doubler and AR mount.
Almost bought a Bushnell but it was $400 and this was $179.

Cool, congrats on the Vortex! I hear good things about them.

I got shipment confirmation that two lowers I ordered yesterday, and two Palmetto uppers I ordered two weeks ago shipped out today. One upper will go on my OD Green USM4 lower I bought last month, and the other one will go on a Tan USM4 lower I ordered yesterday. The Tan build is for my step dad, and the OD Green one is for me. I'll post pictures of them once I have them together. I'll have an extra Silver USM4 lower waiting for the other Palmetto Armory upper I ordered this past Saturday. Hopefully I get lucky and snag another BCM bolt assembly from Bravo's website like I did last week to round out the third and final build.

I put my AR build on hold temporarily as I bought the car that was my Dad's when he passed away. It has sat static for 6 years or so and is going to need a lot of work just to get it running and reliable. Its not a real special car per se, but, I need a work car that has the perfect blend of power, MPG, and comfy ride. This car fits the bill plus it puts me in the old man's car. -Lou

May go back at some point and get the Burris AR332 scope because I liked the reticle and BDC option.
The Vortex is really very nice and can't wait to get it zero'd in.
Yeah fix the car it has sentimental value and worth fixing up.

For a scope I've always wanted the ACOG but that sucker is more expensive than the gun!

I have a Nikon Pro Staff on my Mini 14, and I really like that scope. However, the Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 3x9x40 has perked my interest too. I like the Mark 4 HAMR with the DeltaPoint reflex, but that one's way out of my price range. Basically, I'm looking for a good sub $500.00 scope.
Check out the SWFA SS series of scopes. I have one of their FFP 3-9x42's and it is a serious piece of glass. Higher quality turrets/glass than my Leupold's and the FFP reticle is pure titties.

Do NOT cheap out on glass. You will regret it.

I always thought I wanted a Trijicon ACOG until I checked out a display one set up on a dummy rifle at Cabelas a year or so ago. I totally despised the eye relief, it well and truly sucked. I literally had to keep my eye about an inch back of the optic, and had to stretch and crane my head to get a decent sight window. That convinced me that it's either a red dot or a scope for me. Up until that moment I had no problem spending the money on a Trijicon, now I'm glad I was able to check one out.

The ACOG wasn't designed for any other puspose than to be mounted on an M4 against a MATECH BUIS shooting with your nose to the charging handle with the centerline of the optic being 2.4" above the centerline of the bore.

Yes, the eye relief is short compared to a lot of other 4x glass on the market, but it is made for one purpose and one purpose only. It is a fighting optic and nothing more. All the new variants of the ACOG stem off of the design of the TA01 and TA31 to meet the needs of Trijicon's commercial sales market.

If you want longer eye relief, check out the 3.5x ACOG's. The 4x are made specifically for Mil/LEO and our unfortunate manual of arms with the AR-15 family of weapons.

The TA01 ACOG and Aimpoint CompM4 are the only optics I would recommend without hesitation for anyone looking to outfit a fighting rifle with a rugged, never-fail optic. ACOG for anyone needing medium range magnification and the CompM4 for everything else. Hell, the CompM4 can be left on for something like 6 years with a single AA on the highest setting.

I have (and continue to...) trust my life with the TA01 and will take it into a gunfight any day.

Go for the ACOG. It's worth it.

I see ACOG's on CL sometimes so maybe try and snag one someday.
Had some time with the Vortex today and it did a fine job for what it is.
The glass is nice and clear and vibration didn't seem to bother it one bit.Got home and checked it with my bore sight and it was still dead on.
Checked the ring and mount and no movement at all.
                        Excellent optic for the price.

DRM, I hear you, I do, but damn it was uncomfortable. Maybe it's something you get used to. Like I said before, I was dead set on getting one, but that eye relief just turned me away from it. It was like I was straining to see the objective and keep it in focus if that makes sense.

By the way, thanks for your service!

One day the ACOG will be mine! My AR-15 is not a flat top and I've wondered if perhaps mounting the ACOG on a flat top would be a better option? Oh well. It will be a while before I get either one as I keep hunting for more Wildey stuff. Wildey is unfortunately out of business so they're pretty much in the collector realm. I consider the Wildey the king of the hand cannons

                              roodyrocker,

You *can* mount an ACOG on a carry handle, but fair warning: the cheek weld is very unorthodox.

The mini-ACOG's are actually very fast to acquire and work well mounted on carry handles. The larger 4x models are not the best option for that. I actually love the mini-ACOGs with the "donut of death" reticle...very, very fast.

Thats what I meant, that the original ACOG may be better suited to a flat top than my current AR-15. I got my AR many years ago its a Colt match HBAR with 1 in 7 twist, non-removable handle.
