I love being able to reach out and touch. Nice Mauser...I, too, want one.

Speaking of EBR's, here's me with mine from my last deployment...

Still a poor choice for a designated marksman's rifle. I'd take an M16A4 loaded with Mk262 over the EBR any day and I'd gladly take back my M110 from my Scout days in a heartbeat.

This is my dad's rifle he bought maybe 50 years ago. It's fun to shoot but you have to feed it.

I much prefer flinging more lead and have two 7.62 x 39 AK's and think I want another LOL!
That's cool it was your dad's rifle! I've been looking at Swiss K31's lately, and will probably pick one of those up sooner than later.

I like slinging lead too. I have one AK, a Ruger Mini-14, an M1 Carbine and two AR's. Yeah, I can shoot all day with those. But after 40 rounds or so through the Garand, 40 through the 03A3 and 40 through the Mosin I can tell you that my shoulder is very happy to shoot the lighter stuff.

Looked through Straycat's pictures again, and all I can say is that is one damn fine looking rifle!

Razor I did my research and made damn sure it wasn't a mish mosh of parts.
The owner of the store was impressed with my knowledge and he said it was the nicest one he had seen in years.
He said I need to get the book Kriegsmodell K98 it has all the info on the late war K98's.
        Really? well screw Mark Twain.

          Update.

Took it out today and it was a joy to shoot.
Worked out a feeding issue by polishing the feed ramp and tweaking the magazine spring a little because it was a little weak from being in the gun since 1944.
This was standing only no bag or bench rest.First time with the gun so I can do much better with some quality time.

Its really hard to see the front sight in that little V notch on the rear sight.
I put a dab of paint on the front sight so that should help.
More time with it and 100 yds should be no problem.
Can't wait for summer to get out and do some longer shooting.
              A truly excellent shooting gun.
I love AR's but these bolt guns are incredible.

I've come across an all numbers matching AX 41 K98k. I got to fondle it last night, and I immediately offered up my new brushed stainless Colt Commander for trade. It's hands down the nicest Mauser I've ever held. It's supposedly a GI bring back, and by the looks of it I'd bet big money it is. If I end up getting it I'll be crowing about it for a few days.
