  • Insuring Equipment

We are playing Friday and Saturday night at the same place. Great, we only have to set up/tear down once but how safe is our equipment? What kind of insurance could we get?

I have left my personal gear (except guitars) at clubs before but today my wife asked me if something happened to my stuff, would I be SOL?
No honey, I have always had this Jackson....

Are you getting paid? If so, that would make it a business venture and if you're depending on your homeowners insurance, then coverage will be either nil or very limited.

The other issue is that with a lot of reasonbly priced insurance, leaving stuff at a place like that is exactly the type of thing that is NOT covered. You end up having to pay real money to get insurance to cover your stuff in a place where you do not have real control over access etc.

        Keep in mind depreciation.

        Buy a guitar for $1500
        Guitar gets stolen
        File claim
Insurance asshole: "Well it WAS worth that when new and sure that's what you insured it for but now we say it's only worth half as much due to being used."

I'd think the time to tear down and set up again would be well worth the peace of mind knowing your equipment is safe.

I would tend to agree with this but packing up two heads and cabs along with effects only to set them up the next day (along with a quick sound check) is a pain. Plus I love showing up 15 minutes before going on.

I would never leave guitars but I ended up leaving the amps but packing up effects and supporting gear.

Sounds like a reasonable compromise. You took the easy to grab stuff. The heads and cabs would be a lil harder to get out the door without being seen and I'm sure you have the serials recorded so if they were taken they'd be traceable.
