The pros bring higher levels of action than the amateurs do, BUT on the flip side coming home with a medal is a good way to raise the recruiting prospect of an amateur so I see that side as well. And I am not gonna lie; sure I like to see the NHL play but what the owners want means little to me and the Oympics are only once every four years, so if the owners can allow all-star games every year then there's nothing wrong with ones on larger stages with more at stake than bragging rights no one really cares about in the end.

I don't like see players getting injures in the games but after watching the tournament its too good of hockey to miss out on. Players are insured as part of the agreement I believe between the league and Olympics.
I do have mixed feelings on this as a lot of Euro players put more weight on playing for their countries than they do in the NHL and Stanley cup....Olympic Gold is their Stanley Cup. Pavel Datsyuk is a perfect example...if the Olympics were not going on I'm willing to bet he'd on LTIR and not played the 2 games before Olympics. Euros do what NA players do in the playoffs where they have to be near death to miss a game. It bugs me that Euros won't do the same for the team that pays their bills but will play for their countries.
NHL players in the Olympics is good global exposure for the game in my opinion so it does benefit the NHL to some degree but I know I'm fucked with Henrik Zetterberg on IR for a disk issue that opoped up after the first Sweden game and now won't be playing for the team that gives him 7 mil a year...ouch!shawnlutz.com

I enjoyed the tournament but not the hours, coffee and hockey at 6am isnt right.
Now back to the real McCoy. Our Captain who played one game for Sweden before pulling out due to his back had surgery to remove disc fragments last week and will miss the remainder fro the season. Detroit's chances of making the playoffs for the 23rd season in a row may come to an end now. Gimmpy Datsuyk and Franzen returning from being out with concussion issues will be playing like he has is carrying a dozen eggs that cannot get broken also don't look too good.shawnlutz.com
