  • 12 hours at the range today.

1,400 223 and 850 9mm rounds later. Worked a lot in the shoot house and on strong/weak side transitions and torniquet drills.

I normally don't take pics of targets, but I was really happy with this post-drill result. 2-rifle/1-pistol transitions at 25 yards. Total of 30 rifle/15 pistol shots. The square is a 1"x1" upper-sternum point-of-aim.

No lubrication applied to either my BCM AR or Glock. No malfunctions with either all day.

Enjoying a rum and coke, just didn't have any coke...

Yep. Standing at 25. That was about halfway through the session. I moved on to kneeling, around barricades, weak side only, and finally applying-tourniquet-to-strong/weak-only. Was a very productive day.

According to my timer, my fastest time on that run was 3.18 seconds with a 1.75 second split between the transition. I keep a log book of all my misses/string times. Since buying my timer, my accuracy and speed have improved dramatically. The added stress makes for a great training aid and motivator. Also makes for easy beer when you smoke your buddies in a shoot-off.

Since I can't edit, to clarify: anything outside of those two black boxes is a miss. The blue is the top of the sternum, the green the thinking piece. Sure a gutshot hurts, but I want immediate shutdown.

Always try for an efficient shot, I work on chest and head shots.
Going to be trying some 1000 yard shots next weekend if the weather cooperates.

That's me too! DRM, that's some nice shooting! I'm kind of hoping to go to the range tomorrow, then again, my best friend may want to go fishing. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

                        Wow, that's excellent!

I'm jealous. Obama era ammunition costs have made enjoying the range cost prohibitive. Actually it was Clinton who was responsible for destroying surplus. Whatever. Almost makes me wish I had taken the drug interdiction career option. lol Almost.

All the more reason to invest in reloading equipment in this day and age. It's not going to get much better anytime soon, so if we want to stay on our game, we have to adapt. I miss the days of grabbing 1,000rds of 5.56 for $200.

After costs of punching primers, resizing, trimming, cleaning... the price of powder, primers and projectiles... reloading isn't really saving much money. After time/labor and expenses, you're still paying close to $300/1000 for decent M855 (if you buy the once-fired brass), though if you're considering that a case can be reloaded 3-4 times, you'll save a decent amount over the span of a cartridge life. If you're loading your own 77gr SMKs, you can save $500/1000 only because that stuff is selling for more than $1 a round right now...

And yeah, I miss the days of 10c surplus 7.62x51, $79 for 1440 rounds of 7.62x39 steel core shipped, and surplus 5.56 62gr for $275/1000.

We used to have large group BBQ's at a local range, I'd bring up my Drag a few AKs and some other exotic stuff, open up a few new cases and let anyone who wanted to shoot to shoot however much they wanted. Can't do that anymore.

Yeah those days have vanished Xeno.
I'm debating getting an RPD belt fed gun or a Barrett 50 cal. Ammo will be expensive either way.
