The salaries already established by the so called top tiered players in the league are just that ...established...and no one will take a pay cut nor will those players want to go to a lesser team...would it be good to see teams competing against one another where none of them can spend any more than another putting those teams together...of course it would...but because of how much individuals have been allowed to make up to this point..it won't happen....the lawsuits alone from the players union would ruin baseball.

The cap can be instituted in steps similar to how the NBA has done it. That being said I think the salary cap is less important in the MLB than it is in other sports. For instance the cardinals are not unlimited spenders and compete. Tampa Bay, Oakland etc.... The Dodgers and the Angels tried to buy themselves a ring but it couldn't be done.
