and had stop ....wow I'm totally salt and pepper now...what happened
I was seriously thinking this and chuckling when I noticed my scar and that had me chuckling even more. Back in 97 I was active duty Army, and had just started my EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) career as an attachee. That's when you are still assigned to what will hopefully be your former job, and attached to an EOD unit so that they can evaluate you. It's their evaluation that allows you to go to EOD school. They have the final say.
Anyways, I think I was there for about 4 months at this point. They were good buds with the SRT (special reaction team) on base. Thats basically the Army's version of a civilian police dept SWAT team. The SRT let it be known that they were going out to do some hostage rescue/building clearing training and asked if EOD wanted to join in the fun. Little did we know that they wanted US to be the bad guys. What we also didn't know was that they were using simunition rounds for the training. For those unfamiliar with simunition rounds what they are is, 9mm, 5.56mm, or shotgun paintballs. But paintballs with a HUGE difference. They fire from your service weapon (with modifications to the weapon) using legit powder....cant remember the grain count, but a normal 9mm Beretta fires at 1150 fps a simuntion fires at 700 fps. For those that paintball, those fire right around 300fps on the high end and leave a huge welt for a few days when hit. Needless to say if hit with simunition round, it HURTS.
So we all get our gear on, get explained the rukes for safety, check and double check each person to ensure they're properly suited up with armor, facemasks, ...all the needed gear and then we start. So our team (the bad guys) are to go into the building and and hold a hostage in whatever room we choose and the SRT is to come save the day. Well One of my team members comes up with the perfect trap...unknowingly
The poor guy was really REALLY sick but he wanted to play so chose to not say anything about how ill he was and stayed on as a bad guy team member.
Within minutes of us entering the building he went to find the toilets. Well I guess he had one of those BLOWOUT diahrea shits once he got there...you know the kind..partially solid at first then ten minutes of scattergun liquidy pellets then pure brown soupy sludge till his bowels were completely empty.
All well and good to get that kind of mess out of ya right?
Well the problem was, the building we were using was set for demolition...hell thats why the SRT was being allowed to use it for training, and being set for demolition, they removed anything that could be reused. That included the toilets.
This guy went into the bathroom, looked around for the toilets, couldn't find any, shrugged his shoulders, dropped trou and let it fly.
You remember the movie Dumb and Dumber when Bob Saget ......here this will explain it:
It WAS everywhere..like a shit grenade had gone off....it was splat pattern of more than 15 feet long and 12 feet wide...unbelievably SICK. We all wanted out of the building, but....we were there to do a job. We got together and formulated a plan...we closed the bathroom door, and only a few other doors...then we all got up into different locations in the ductwork of the building.
The SRT would have to search the building and those closed doors would pretty much be our only cover and concealment in that building. They probably would think this is going to be easy with only 3 doors closed.
Well we got started...we watched the SRT do their thing...clearing the building that was open access and covering the closed doors with a few operators while doing so. Then they got to the bathroom clearing itself....it was the first one they chose to do...They broke open the door and tossed a flash bang in then the team entered the screams of OMG WTF...HOLY SHIT!!! made the training more realistic I suppose...they came running out of that bathroom like they were being chased by hell hounds...and thats when we started sniping them with 9mm from our ductwork hideouts.
I was lying prone and had gotten 2 of them, but a 3rd saw where my shots had come from and lined up his shot. Now thats what these guys do....is SHOOT, so I have a hard time believing he didnt aim right where his shot hit. Had it been an actual bullet from that range, my head would have been hanging by fragments of skin.
Place your index finger right in V of your breastbone under your Adams apple.then move it 1/2" up. That's where his shot hit. The problem was that from that range, the simuntion paint casing didnt break...it buried itself about a quarter of an inch into my neck....I was done and now I have a good story to go along with my scar.
Yes I was wearing all of the protective gear, but lying prone and lining up shots exposed my throat and that guy took the shot.
It was a helluva shot
