Depends on the guitar, but I've grown to not worry about it too much. Stuff happens.

One thing I have noticed is that some guitars just seem to be more drawn to damage than others. To clarify, some guitars I've had for years and pretty much nothing has happened to them. Then there are other guitars where dings and other stupid things seem to happen on a regular basis. Can't explain it.

One night while opening for Twisted Sister.. the crowd was doing the normal You suck and TWISTED chant while we were playing. I stopped playing just for a second and raised my hands with the double middle finger to the crowd. As I lifted my arms my vintage 1968 Gibson SG fell off the upper strap and it hit face down on the stage splitting the headstock in 2. The crowd loved it.

At one point my band was playing live 3-4 times a week. It was all a blur of sex, drugs and metal. Anyway... when I got home I left one of my guitars in the back yard. It rained and the guitar got full of mud. It looked like I had just dug it up. I took it to the next show that night in a black hefty trash bag and played it loaded with mud. It was one of our better shows.

One time I had a fight with my bass player on stage while we opening for Anthrax (we were a power trio). He was coked up too much and was in a fog on stage. Anyway,, I pushed him, he pushed me back and I tackled him into his Sunn full stack bass rig which went crashing down. Funny thing is everything stayed on. Even the amp. He played it while it was laying down until the song was over. The crowd went insane. They thought it was planned.

After a shit set, I sent an RG570 across the stage barely missing the bass player. As soon as I let go I was like...FUCK...not to mention the wireless unit. I was shocked to find literally...NO damage...to anything...I didn't play that guitar for the next set....

The second guitar I ever owned was a black Epiphone LP (looked like the Zakk Wylde model) and at that age I'd never heard of straplocks before.. so it went to the ground.

When I got my RR24, I had to play a gig with my previous band the same day I got my Rhoads. While tuning, my other guitarist poked his ESP headstock in de upper wing of my guitar, by accident. Big crackled dent as a result. The worst thing about it was that he did it with an ESP.

I don't have much damage to my guitars, but one night I was having an argument with the wife and she picked up my Korean Hamer Sunburst and tried to smash it off the end of the bedframe to teach me a lesson (not to fuck with her). I managed to grab it just in time, I woulda been pretty mad if it had been damaged, I love that wee guitar and I bought it the day before my gran died so it has sentimental value!
