  • Ray Monette's guitar

How's that for a mashup of everything.
Strat looking body. With 3 Les Paul looking pickups.
A Telecaster headstock. With Shark Fin inlays.

I don't know who that is, but that's a cool guitar!
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

He was one of the Funk Brothers --- the Motown studio musicians (yeah, a whitey doing motown) that wrote and recorded all of the old hits. He is currently in Rare Earth.

I was watching "Phil Collins: Back to Detroit" on the Smithosian Channel onDemand. The first thing I saw was the Shark Fins (this is the Jackson forum, afterall) on this weird red fretboard. So I took a closer look at it and saw all of those weird oddites.

Of course, it was custom made.
It was made by another Detroit guy - Ed Goetz.
            Not a partscaster.

I don't see how a parts guitar can be called a custom its just a mutt.
Nothing wrong with a mutt IMO.
The fingerboard looks like baked maple and Warmoth sells those all day long.

all the parts might be available elsewhere. But if a luthier has actually built this guitar (and not just assembled it), how is it a mutt?

I believe that it was a made, not assembled.
But, since I am not Ray or Ed, I can't give a definitive answer.
