That sucks, always looked forward to this show because like them, I am stuck on 70's,80's and 90's metal . I know a lot of people have complained they don't talk much about modern metal, but that was just fine with me. It's not that I don't like modern stuff, I listen to a lot of it. It's just that there are plenty of places, YouTube etc.. that you can follow your band these days, and I find that the personalities of the older guys make for better fishing stories. I like to get some info on the old school guys since we had no internezz back in the day, and you had to hope Headbangers Ball would play your favorite bands video, and just general discussion of metal never took place on MTV at all. What are they gonna put in its place anyway? More reruns of Pop Up Video...no thanks! I'm sure they'll land on some obscure cable channel somewhere, though it's hard to imagine a channel more obscure than VH1 classic.Last edited by BayRocker; 01-20-2016, 07:43 AM.

I haven't been watching it 'live' because I never know when the seasons start vs just seeing the reruns. ~~~I don't really watch anything live live anymore. More like live current via ondemand.
When I have time, I play catchup from the VH-1 website. It is very organized in terms of episode order. Not like the tv schedule, which sometimes shows season 3 followed by season 14, then back to season 9.
But, I gotta tell ya, the show resonates with me. Because sometimes it really puts things in perspective. Unlike other shows, it is not always the biggest name that gets the nod. How much you pay for the advertising (aka, interview) doesn't come to play.
What I mean is....
I used to play in a band called Dirty Looks. Which was not hugely successful, the way someone such as Poison or Alice Cooper was - or any of the numerous guests he has on a weekly basis. I didn't think anyone outside of the home area would remember them 20-30 years later.
But then, in 2011, Trunk opened up the season saying that he'd like to announce the death of Henrik Ostergaard, and then he had all these nice things to say about him and the band...
My jaw dropped. It was a surreal moment. Because nowhere else (Yeah, I am talking about you Mr. HoH), to my knowledge, was the band or his death acknowledged.
And for me, with a chick I just met the night before, cooking me breakfast while watching the Sunday morning broadcast of TMS, seeing Trunk talk about one of my old bands... nice.

Dirty Looks is one of my favorite bands back in the day. It's cool how they would talk about obscure bands. Tora Tora is another one of my favorites, but you never hear about them. Thanks for the kick ass tunes pianoguyy!
I hate to see TMS cancelled, but I haven't been able to watch it in while. I always thought the "intermission" musicians were cool as hell too!

Palladia would be a good place for TMS. And it would give me an excuse to order it and watch Daryl's House.
MTV was nice, then it became non-sense. But they made VH-1, which also used to be a nice channel. Then, it became non-sense, but they made additional channels like MTV2 and VH-1 Classic. Now, of course, when you turn on VH-1 Classic, it too has turned into non-sense. Always showing a movie from the 80's. Every night, the same damn movie for a month.
MTV - Music Televison
VH-1 - Video Hits
Why does Teen Mom and Teen Wolf get so much play!
FYI, the guys have said numerous times - VH-1 CLASSIC, is the reason why you don't see more new bands on the show. The network is all about CLASSIC (aka, old) stuff. I would hate to think what would happen to the vibe of the show if they went to another network and they started inviting new artists on. Because then I am afraid that it would just become like any other cookie cutter show.

So many different members, that I didn't know Robin Crosby was a member until recently. And I knew Chris Caffrey was a member, but I didn't put two and two together to realize that it was Chris Caffrey.

Saw Tora Tora live a few times and they were a great live band.
Bang Tango live was kick ass too but you never hear much about them either.
I think the new metal stuff has no soul. Yeah there are a few bands that rock but I think the public just doesn't give a shit any more.Really? well screw Mark Twain.

The modern market is listener-driven, not "I play guitar, too" driven, so yeah, it's gonna seem like today's stuff sucks. There's not a discernable Guitar War going on between them like there was in the 80s and 90s. No one's fighting for the "shreddiest guitarist" award from Guitar World because these days if you can't shred it's because you're too lazy to watch YouTube videos on it and sit down for the time it takes to learn it. Back then, you still needed to spend the time, but there was no internet or Xbox, so you had fewer distractions.
And yes, Trunk and the guys said many times that they feature classic Metal and Hard Rock because they're on VH-1 CLASSIC. As well, like P-guy said, new bands can't pay their way onto the show to get a good rating. They feature acts that have already earned their own career the old fashioned way of working for it, rather than throwing a bunch of money around to get good press. They had an agent/manager to represent them, not a Public Relations/Advertising/Marketing Director to present them.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood
