IMO...the inconsistent server problems created a lot of frustration...the cheapening of the brand has brought alot of "my desolation rulez" shite which gets tired fast....the FB pages draw attention away from the forum...& the manipulation of C/J land & it's associated forums...all of which has lead to disinterest...which sux

There's nobody at the helm. Moderators are moderating but there's no updates, no plans, nothing creative to attract new users. Nothing has really changed here in 14 years. No MOAIP, no generator anymore, nobody blogging, no contests, nothing. Just a site that's mostly abandoned due to lack of interest or motivation by the people in control.

It could be worse........... you should see the Dean Forum. Dead, set on fire and buried.

Then you have the BC Rich Forum, gone and if you try to go to that URL now, you get a virus popup.

Jemsite is also as dead as a door knob, and a few others I've noticed.

As for cheapening the brand, yeah, Jackson did that years ago. Their product is still excellent, and yes, it's nice to have some affordable options, but the Jackson name doesn't have the impact it did back in the 80's when most of their guitars were a "one-off."

But in general, it seems almost like guitars aren't as popular as they used to be, or at least not the "shred" guitars like Jackson, Ibanez, B.C. Rich, et al. The Fender Forum seems to be chugging along fine. Gibson? Don't know and don't care.

I think a lot of it is purely cultural. On one hand, you have the fact that shred/heavy metal isn't what it used to be. On the other hand, Facebook and other social media is taking over. Facebook will never have the sense of community that forums do, though. Not even close.

Oh, yeah. I forgot this part. You know what REALLY irritates me? When I search for a company's website and find that they only have ... tada!.... a Facebook page. To me, that shows a complete lack of motivation and a cop-out attitude. Of course, these days EVERY company probably SHOULD have a Facebook page and that's fine, but if that's their entire Web presence, I'll look elsewhere if possible.

First my local newpaper started telling people to visit their website. Now the paper isn't even printed everyday.

But now, my local television news is constantly hyping their webpage, their Facebook and Twitter, and their mobile app. Are they also going to be going away?
I mean, I do not need 10 hours of local news every day, but I'd still like it to be on tv, lol. Not the damn Twitter.

And yes, I did the math (and deleted all of the typing), my local news is on for 10.5 hours every day. Plus more for special events.

It seems to be a repeating cycle. In the late 70's, guitar was out of vogue because everyone (and I say "everyone" not literally) was listening to disco. Then Eddie Van Halen came along and the 80's were Guitar City. Then in the early 90's when Nirvana hit and metal died somewhat, the scene changed again. Suddenly the "cool" thing was to bang out alternative or flog. And neither genre could play to save their lives for the most part.

But it'll be back. The public mood changes often enough and REAL guitar will come back stronger than ever.

I agree with that statement. Does that make me anti-social?

Hmmm, not surprised. I used to go to Jemsite a lot but the guy that runs the place(Rich ???) was such a major prick to everyone, I can't say I'm surprised to see that place dying.

I never posted much over there. I went through a phase a couple of years ago where I *thought* I wanted an Ibanez.

I have a bunch of Japanese Ibanez RG's. Those 1987-2000's Japanese RG's may be the last really great bang for the buck guitars out there that are still relatively cheap. New Japanese Ibanez(Prestige) guitars are priced insanely high now. In fact, with new Japanese RG's going for $2000 and original 80's-90's Japanese RG's going in the $300 range, a smart person might start buying up old RG's for investment purposes.

my frustration with the forum stems from difficulty in using. I've spent about 30 minutes now trying to respond to a thread only to receive a range of error messages. From "your post must be longer than 1 character" and a text box that only shows the comments that I'm responding to but none of my response; to "the file you're attempting to upload is too large" when I'm just trying to comment; to "are you sure you want to navigate away from this page" and seeing that my post hasn't been submitted no matter which way I answer the question
