Today my thoughts are like a great majority of Americans with what happened 15 years ago. I stumbled across this video and it really hit me hard. To everyone who has served or is serving our country I want to say I truly appreciate you.

I watched that episode a couple of weeks ago, and it was intense. Both my grandfathers fought in World War II, my Mom's dad in the navy and my Dad's father in the army in France and Germany. Neither would talk about combat at all. My Mom's dad boxed a kangaroo, and said it was the worse beating he had ever taken. My Dad's father would talk about boot camp, but nothing of the front or even where he had been. He did tell us what unit he was in. I had a great uncle who fought in the Pacific, and he wouldn't talk much about it other than he had an understandable deep and intense hatred to Japanese or really anyone of Asian descent. Almost all of the old farmers that lived around the farm I grew up on served in World War II, and if the subject of war ever came up they'd get real hushed and then basically ignore the subject. I learned early on that it was taboo to ask, and as I got older I understood why.

I know they've seen things that no one would ever want to see, and anyone who signs up for that has my utmost respect because to sign up for that they have to be cut from the same cloth as people looked up to and respected since I was a kid. I really appreciate your service, and what you guys do for us.
