Today was an excellent NGD: CMP Winchester M1 Garand and Russian Tula SKS

I received my Winchester field grade from the CMP today. I'm happy as hell with it. I put a sticky note on my order for "a nice shooter with good measurements", and that's exactly what I received.


It has a undated Winchester barrel with MW of a touch over 2, and throat erosion of 4. Unmarked stock set that looks walnut to me. Uncut SA op rod, and a mix of other SA parts. Here are some pictures of it. I'm happier than a puppy with two peckers over this one. I like the "been there, done that" look, and it's exactly what I was hoping to receive.













After that I went to deposit a check at the bank. Ended up stopping at one of my favorite shops on the way home. There I found a Russian Tula SKS labeled by the importer as a M56 Chinsese SKS. So I ended up taking that home with me too. It's my first SKS. I've been looking for one for a while. The shop thought it was a Norinco. I saw the Tula star on it, and just kept my mouth shut. Paid $321.00 out the door for it.

Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. It's my fourth Garand, and I have two others that are real nice shooters. I'm hoping to go to the range this coming Monday.

Let us know how it goes, the is a fantastic rifle. Still in service, in the form of an M14.

Nice scores. I'd like to pick up a Garand some day, but they're very expensive up here in Canada. SKSs on the other hand are very cheap. I have two right now. A 1950 Tula refurb with the sprung firing pin, and a non-refurb 1951 Tula with the floating pin. I refinished the stock on the 1950 because it was pretty rough, and hey it's a refurb anyway. I believe the 51 was pretty much unused judging by the condition of the rifling. My favorite is my 1943 Swedish AG42b. Super accurate and somewhat rare.

Sweet! For the money I think the WASR 10/63 is an excellent and economical AKM variant. I recently swapped the Tapco side folder stock on mine with a wooden stock.

I ended up putting a proper magazine and Tula stock set on the SKS. Updated picture of it.

I sold the 2 WASR 10/63's I had maybe a year ago and kicked myself for doing it and found this one at a more than fair price so I bought it.
Found a cobbled up circle 10 AK 74 for sale, on a Waffen Works receiver and a M&M side folding triangle stock.
Whoever added the side folder damaged the receiver internally so I passed on it.
Waffen Works stamped receivers aren't known to be all that great and tend to have pin alignment issues.If it had been on a Nodak spud receiver I would have bought it and just fixed it.

Walked in a local pawn shop today and walked out with an unfired 93 Norinco MAK 90 sporter.
Has a odd top cover with a scope rail on it and its not a TWS top rail cover I don't think but way better than any TWS top cover I have had in the past.
Would have loved it if the original serialized top cover was with the gun but I will find a nice blued top cover at the gun show here in town in a few weeks.
The thumb hole stock has no wear on it but I will probably put a correct blonde pistol grip and butt stock on it eventually.
Really in fantastic shape no rust or pitting anywhere on the gun.
Its been a good week 2 AKs and not even looking for them and one being a unfired Norinco is pretty special.

Hell Yeah!!! One of these days I'll end up picking a MAK up too. Just haven't come across the right deal for one.

Scored a blued MAK 90 top cover today off gunbroker and I'll have to fill the serial number re stamp it and re blue it but thats no big deal.
The MAK 90 needs a matching serialized dust cover as close to original I can get.
Why the previous owner put that shitty rail cover on there I have no idea.
Have to get that thumbhole stock off there soon. Going to order a type 56 blonde wood set in a few days to make it look right.
Hung out over at Centerfire Systems today and scored a nice custom High Standard dark red stock set for an AK project I have coming up soon.

I bought it for the parts basically but the upper was a Colt A1 (no shell deflector but has a forward assist) and I have been looking for one for a long time.Marked C H for Colt/Harvey Aluminum.

So I have the A1 upper I wanted and extra parts for another build. Just need a Colt slab sided lower and build a CAR15 clone.Used an old GG&G gas block w flip up front sight post/sling mount I had in my parts stash

Do my eyes deceive me or is that a proper CAR15 stock? If not it looks like a hell of a repro!

I picked up three project pistols that I've finished since my original post. I reblued a Romanian TT-C Tokarev and a Rock Island 1911. I also picked up a Para GI Expert 1911 that I had a local shop cerakote for me. I've had a damn good gun year this year.

The Rock Island Standard CS 1911. It was hands down the dirtiest pistol I have ever seen or owned. It cleaned up nicely, and has the sweetest trigger of all my 1911's. I dare say it's 3lb pull. I need to invest in a trigger pull scale.







Last is the Para GI Expert. It has a stainless steel frame and slide, so I couldn't rust blue it. I've always wanted a two tone 1911, and a local shop cerakoted it for me for 80 bucks out the door. All the other local shops wanted a 150 bucks.





I also ended up replacing the plastic mainspring housings in the Rock Island and Para with Ed Brown carbon steel replacements. It was fun learning how to properly fit them, and was easier than I expected.

Good work on the RI's and the TT-C. Love the RI 1911's personally.
I usually try to keep a few around for trading fodder They make a great 1911.
I have a double stack 22 TCM Rock Island 1911 and its a great gun.
The CAR 15 stock is a repro.Just plastic.
I am looking for a repro Colt Lower,slab side or fenced Nodak or other Mfg is fine to build an XM 177E2 clone.
