Looks like Tom Araya in the Rush band.

I've heard of the Gimme Gimmes. In my original band back in 2000, we did a few covers but always did them our way: tempo changes, style changes. We did a lounge "Sinatra" version of Seek & Destroy. Seems to me we did Safety Dance, Highway to Hell and made them sound like Dr. Demento. Nobody seemed to like our sense of humor.

I just watched a show on PBS, so I would like to amend my statement...

There was a Pink Floyd tribute. Which, really isn't about the "characters". It is about the music and the show.
And, I gotta tell ya, they had a light show that was absolutely amazing. Their sound system was crystal clear.
This was 20 years ago. For a "bar band", they were way ahead of their time.

It didn't even bother me that the lead singer/guitar player looked like Leslie West with dreadlocks down to his ass.

I've seem them live twice and the crowd was totally jacked and into it from the first note to the last.
I was gonna say that, but not with that example. Live the era and style like it's your own. You don't need to be a pure copycat clone band to do a proper tribute.

I was in a "Tribute" band a few years back. Demon Alcohol "A Tribute to Ozzy and Sabbath" We did not really look the part. I'm 6'5" and look like I should be a rocker but look nothing like Ozzy, my guitar player didn't look like any player ever in Ozzy or Sabbath, my drummer looked like Phil Collins and my bass player looked but didn't dress the part. That said, we had a good following because we played the fuck out of the songs even without a keyboardist. Be it a "Tribute" or a "Cover" band, the music and vocals come first....if it's good enough and you're not dressed for bedtime who cares if you look like them. You don't have to be an "impersonator" like in a Vegas show....and most of those sound nothing like the originals.

          This was us......
Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!
