Anyone seen any new technique or come up with anything lately that blew them away or made you wonder why nobody has done it before?

I had this conversation with a friend in the late 80's. He said that there couldn't possibly be anything else new and innovative that could be done. I disagreed. And sure enough, along came Nirvana....

Kidding about the last part.

But seriously, no one anticipated Hendrix. Or Jimmy Page. Or Eddie Van Halen. Or Randy Rhoads. Or Yngwie.

So yeah, I think it's possible. I have zero idea what it could be, but it can happen.

That 'pick-rake'? that Gojira is known for may not be new, but they seem to use it in a more controlled manner than earlier bands.

I expect there are exceptions, though.
