The Band is amazing ....but the vocals are lacking at times ..IMO

Labrie has great , dynamics and range ...but he lacks power and his tone is irritating at times.

      It's Labrie.

Hear him live only makes it worse.

I love DT but have always kinda disliked Labrie. That feeling has grown over the years. He hurts my ears with his high pitched clean harmonies. I think he is musically gifted, but he just doesn't fit in.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes, I love LaBrie, but he can be a little irritating at times, mostly live, like he's straining himself after awhile. I think he sounds fine on album. Though, he needs to hang out with his buddy Ray Alder from Fates Warning a little more. That guy just rules!!!!

Ray Alder rules! One of my favorite vocalists, right up there with Russel Allen, Warrel Dane and LaBrie.

I can hear and understand why a lot of people hate LaBrie's singing. For some reason his singing on all of Dream Theater's live CDs really sucks, and he often does sound a little weak in the studio. However, every time I've seen DT live, he sounded better than anything I've ever heard of him in the studio. I don't know, maybe I'm just lucky. I love LaBrie though, he's a great singer. Fates Warning are amazing. I prefer Ray's voice, but I really dig John Arch as well. Awaken The Guardian is a classic for me! My favorite with Ray is Parallels.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I dig John as well, but have always loved Ray since he came aboard in '89 on the No Exit album, and he's been my favorite singer since. I'll have to check out Arch's solo disc, as I hear that's pretty cool.

Dokken Tooth and Nail. First time I have listened to this in years. I remember really liking George's tone on this album. But now it sounds thin and trebly. I still think his best tone was on the Back for the attack album.
