Yeah NOTP. That is some of Kurt Wenner's work and it's incredible. He has a gallery some of his work on his site. Also check out the Artist Q & A section. Interesting stuff for sure.

Yes, that technique is called Trompe l'oeil (it's pronounced something like "Trump Loy," I think. Damn French). Do a Google search on it. There's some pretty amazing examples out there.
