With the Nikon, are you just using the stock lens or are you using any other lenses.
I use a Canon Powershot G3, I get some pretty decent pix with just the regular lens.
I would like to know also, did you use just manual settings, or auto settings? If manual, what did you have your aperature set to, shutter speed, ISO, et cetera.
You have some awesome pics.
Rattlehead, yours are also awesome, as are yours Notp.
The next time you get a sunset like that, jump in your car and find something more interesting to silhouette. Chimneys, powerlines, street lights, gutters, etc.. are not the best subjects. In fact it pays to scout out your neighborhood before hand so the next time you can get there quick. The sky is your point of interest so make the silhouette something simple. A single tree, some kids playing in the park, a hot chick sitting on a rock, maybe a city skyline. That type of thing.
I have a few CD's of scanned images I'll see if I can dig them up.

Deneb - Those are all with stock lenses and automatic settings (like I said, I'm a hack and I freely admit it) Thanks for the complement Bob but with all due respect, I honestly don't deserve much credit for the pics, God provided excellent subject matter & Nikon did a fantastic job recording it. I just pushed the button).
I've been very happy with the Nikons, they tend to capture 95%+ of the shots I want. The ones that don't come out typically fail when the white balance sensor can't compensate for very extreme contrasts in bright sunlight. It's rare but it does happen. Thankfully I'm finally getting to the point where I have a feel for when a shot isn't going to come out.
My only real gripe (and this goes for all digital cameras that I've tried) is with the digital zoom feature. Simply put: it's crap. I understand that it merely focuses in on a portion of the sensor and in doing so dumps a lot of resolution in the process but I've never gotten a single good shot when using the digital zoom. They're all a little hazy/blurry/out of focus. E.g., this one with the 5700 from the Chilkoot Eagle Sanctuary in Alaska:
To me digital zoom is useless enough that I honestly wonder why they even bother to include it.
Wow, love the pictures everybody!!
Hotrodder: Thanks for the wicked tips!! Unfortunately, all those photos that are in my original post are taken from the inside of my bedroom, so I only have limited angles at which I can shoot, and everything outside my window is made up of the rest of the neighborhood. Now that summer is here (I just finished my last exam today!!!!), I have a lot more free time and I'll be cruising around the place for better shots!
Deneb: Thanks for asking about camera settings... I forgot to ask! As for my settings, I was mostly using automatic mode, but I messed around with the exposure value settings, and that's why all my sunset shots look slightly different from each other. I can't remember offhand which shots had which settings. And of course, I used no flash. I find that a flash spoils a lot of shots unless you're taking pictures of people at a party or something. Even then, I'd hesitate to use it. I've got a massive end-of-the-school-year party this Friday evening so I'll be trying my hand at different types of shots.
Cleveland Metal: That reverse-head Soloist that Mike has is AWESOME!!
Shredder85: That's just a stock photo of the camera to demonstrate its tiny size!
And about the digital zoom... it's semi-useful only when something is beyond your optical zoom range, but you should really set your resolution to the maximum to minimize the pixellating "blockiness" or whatever you get when you normally use digital zoom. There's still no substitute for a massive lens with a great optical zoom though.

The most human thing we can do is comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.
Here's some I took last year using my Olympus D600L. Some were taken without any filters, others had Daylight and Haze reduction filters (forget which ones).
A small note about this one: This is NOT a camera trick - these noticeable divisions were in the sky. The effect has not been altered or enhanced in any way.
actually, there are more pics from that session, taken at Archtop's place with his camera, maybe he has the others, but I kept the one showing least of the truck.
Altho, a recent PC issue he had may have corrupted/lost all the others.
