Quote of the year from Kofi Annan:

"[I]t looks as if the Saddam regime had nothing to do with it. They did nothing wrong - it was all the U.N.," Annan said.

I have a question.

Where are all the Euro's on this issue? Everytime America farts we get at least 2 six-page posts.

Is this getting any press over there?

Kidding aside, you're right though. If this is accurate, it's a damn disgrace. I have yet to see it in our news reporting over here though.

And you're not likely to see much reporting on it 'bane. The lack of outcry from the press is merely more proof (as if we needed any more) of the media's overwhelming political bias.

Well, yeah - If you google "United Nations" you get 24,500 hits. I got specific in my first search.

Well, up to now (Mid-morning Sat 1 May), there has been absolutely NO mention of this in any UK media that I am aware of! They have really been pushing this "Terrible abuse of Iraqi POWs" angle, presumably to keep the populace's eye off the ball, as it were
Oh yeah, and there's this REALLY important Michael Jackson thing going on, as well...

Re: U.N. OIL PAPERS VANISH

That is utterly amazing. If UNSCAM proves even marginally true - it will dwarf ENRON, Tyco, and Worldcom put together several times over. And the three biggest opponents to the war (France, Germany, Russia) just happen to be the three biggest holders of Oil For Food contracts.

Is this what Europe was doing while the US/UK were spending trillions to enforce the UN No Fly Zones?! Is this the real reason for the opposition to the war?

Biggest. Ripoff. Ever.

And all the Euro media cares about is the fact that 3 out of 100,000 soldiers are assholes?

Is the planet really that fucked up? Have these 'allies' really been sticking it to us this hard, for this long? This crap far pre-dates 9/11, before any of the US' unilateral actions.

Blokes, thanks for updating us on the Euro press, or lack of it.

And you won't see the US govt. make a big stink out of it, either. ...Why? Because we've pissed off our European allies way too much already, and we won't want to throw anything back in their faces for fear of embarressing them. (Read: further alienating ourselves from them.)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">In short: yes. The moderately longer answer lies in the old truism that, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." The UN is accountable to no one, they're not elected and those running the show all hold diplomatic credentials that give them complete immunity from responsibility for their actions. Hence all of the necessary checks and balances to prevent this sort of thing do not exist.
