Ace, you of all people should realise that military service includes the possibility of death on the field, and that whining about it distracts you from staying alive, which is the FIRST PRIORITY.

Yeah I sit here and play armchair general and yes it's damn easy to do it, just like it's damn easy to do your damn job without hesitation and without whining.

A soldiers duty is to follow orders as specified, and to respect the chain of command. Whinning and second guessing the game plan is an invitation for a bullet train on the field of battle.........How would you like it if these guys were assigned to your unit? The answer is friendly fire casualties...........

Re: Another perspective on the war in Iraq

You what guys I think part of the problem here is ... our men amd women are doing a great job there ...but everyones expectations of an immediate result is't going to happen ...

It's ashame that we have lost some great people over there but they volunteered , and died for what they believed in ...that's frustrating to most ..even to guys like me ...and I have lost over a dozen good friends "doing thier jobs" and I was almost amoung those "hero's" ...your only a hero when you get one between the eyes and that the cold harsh reality of it ..then you are just a fading memory ...then forgotten..like so many

BUT they are doing a job , and very well concieved plan to contain and hold down the terrorist without being "percieved" as brutal bullies to the rest of the world ...and that's even including some of our own stupid moronic retarded people..like usual

"Diplomacy" fuck that mentality ...Terrorist do not have "diplomacy in their agendas but still we must ...because we are Americans ....

This is war !!!!!

Yeah the economy sucks , Healthcare sucks , gas prices suck , unemployment always sucked ...but we are at a war ...a war like no other ..a war that we must win ..loosing this NOT an option ....without the illusion of looking like the bad guys ...

too much fuckin' media coverage (armchair quaterbacks) ....forty years ago ...we would of nuked those towel-headed face like-a-wooly-snatch fuckers and know one would even know or gave a fuck .....that's what hurting our economy ...not the war but the whole facade of being the caring big brother ......and to prove that to the world ...that takes a lot of money , talk and bullshit ....$$$$$$$$$$$$

and that's not taking care of business like days gone by ...that's just kissng and suckin' ass!

I was in the Army myself. I was on alert to go to Lybia, with two days left before we were going to jump on a plane over there, Reagan bombed 'em. Would have galdly gone.

The situation over in Iraq is dire.

How are we going to have a democracy there when thier religion pretty much forbids it.

Its pointless.

Guys let me just say that whoever the little pussy that wrote that will more than likely end up dead, His head is in the wrong place he should be focusing on the task at hand not looking for some excuse or trying to make people feel sorry for him!!! He knew damn well what he was going into when he signed up. I am a member of the armed forces and the best damn branch there is USMC. I have been to Iraq and may be going again in the near future. I am fully aware of what goes on and what I will be forced to face should I go again. WAR IS HELL there is no way around it. Some members of the service need to stop whining and focus on the task at hand...If this could only happen there would be one hell of alot less casualties over there. I'm sorry if I'm pissing anyone off here but when I swore the oath I meant it and when I see people who take that for granted it just PISSES ME OFF!!! Anyways thanks for letting me vent

Semper Fi to my Marine brothers out there! Unfortunately or fortunately, however you want to look at it, I served during peacetime so I didn't have the opportunity to see combat. The media is so liberal and one sided in regards to the war it makes me want to puke. I know we are not supposed to post emails on the board, but I feel this is relevant and needs to get out. Enjoy!!

This is a letter from Ray Reynolds, a medic in the Iowa Army National
Guard, serving in Iraq:

As I head off to Baghdad for the final weeks of my stay in
Iraq, I wanted to say thanks to all of you who did not believe the media. They
have done a very poor job of covering everything that has happened. I am
sorry that I have not been able to visit all of you during my two week leave
back home. And just so you can rest at night knowing something is
happening in Iraq that is noteworthy, I thought I would pass this on to you. This
is the list of things that has happened in Iraq recently: (Please share it
with your friends and compare it to the version that your paper is
producing.)

* Over 400,000 kids have up-to-date immunizations.
* School attendance is up 80% from levels before the war.
* Over 1,500 schools have been renovated and rid of the weapons stored
there so education can occur.
* The port of Uhm Qasar was renovated so grain can be off-loaded from
ships faster.
* The country had its first 2 billion barrel export of oil in August.
* Over 4.5 million people have clean drinking water for the first time
ever in Iraq.
* The country now receives 2 times the electrical power it did before
the war.
* 100% of the hospitals are open and fully staffed, compared to 35%
before the war.
* Elections are taking place in every major city, and city councils
are in place.
* Sewer and water lines are installed in every major city.
* Over 60,000 police are patrolling the streets.
* Over 100,000 Iraqi civil defense police are securing the country.
* Over 80,000 Iraqi soldiers are patrolling the streets side by side
with US soldiers.
* Over 400,000 people have telephones for the first time ever.
* Students are taught field sanitation and hand washing techniques to
prevent the spread of germs.
* An interim constitution has been signed.
* Girls are allowed to attend school.
* Textbooks that don't mention Saddam are in the schools for the first
time in 30 years.

Don't believe for one second that these people do not want us
there.
I have met many, many people from Iraq that want us there, and in a
bad way.
They say they will never see the freedoms we talk about but they hope
their children will. We are doing a good job in Iraq and I challenge
anyone, anywhere to dispute me on these facts. So If you happen to run into
John Kerry, be sure to give him my email address and send him to Denison,
Iowa. This soldier will set him straight. If you are like me and very
disgusted with how this period of rebuilding has been portrayed, email this to a
friend and let them know there are good things happening.

I served two active duty terms in the Air Force. Talk about timimg. I outprocessed on June 10, 1990. Two months later, Saddam moved into Kuwait.

As others have mentioned, it's impossible to join the military without understanding that:

1. You may be called upon to risk your life. This includes peacetime, since a lot of military jobs are dangerous by their very nature.

2. The needs of the military come first. Sure, I bitched and moaned about certain things, just like everyone else around me, but it's just understood that you're there for a reason.

There's no way that anyone can sign those papers without fully understanding the implications.
