Re: book excerpt....

Actually IMO this is excellent writing. A compelling, suspenseful story with oddball characters...a scuzzy but famous setting...a sympathetic major character with human foibles whom the reader cares about...famous people popping in here & there...a palpable sense of fear and desperation...

You say you didn't reach your goals or stay in Hollywood, but if you punch it up with a couple villain characters and a climactic ending, I'd say you got a winner. End with an "American Graffiti" / "Class of '65" style where-are-they-now epilogue. Contact some publishers.

I'd buy it because it was Sully. I'd READ it because it is well written, the story is entertaining, and I want to know what the ride was like.

Seriously, Sully, I compliment people's playing all the time, but I rarely (almost never) dig the way that people write. And I dig the way you write.

I hope you got some money from Howard Stern for using your band name:

Killer stuff, Sully. Talented. Seriously! I'm not blowing smoke. You should finish it off and propose it to some publishers someday.

I would like to see more character background.
You don't really set up who anyone is.
It's an interesting story, it just needs more detail.

Very well written Sully...interesting read. I think you did a great job. The outcome isn't important (not becoming a Rock star)...its the experiences that count, and what lead you to where you are now. You went for your dream and thats more than most of us have.

Great story Sully! I remember sitting around with my bandmates in the late 80's and early 90's talking and dreaming about hopping a bus to L.A. with our demos to try and make it big....unfortunately that never happened. Your story would make a great book or movie! Thanks for posting...it brought back alot of memories for me.

Great job Sully, thanks a ton for sharing this with us We read this stuff all the time and see it in the "WHatever happened to..." VH-1 specials, but there's something a little more "realistic" when you read it from someone you actually know (well, as far as online message boards count as "knowing" someone )

But I gotta be a critic and say:
YOU STOOGE! THIS is the material for your damn SONGS that you shoulda been writing at the time!

By the way, I'd like to host this stuff on my site, if that's cool with you (yes, I'm desperate for content )
